They used the Mig-23 with teh radar and duck bill nose variants but dont think they ever got the 27, although the Russians did station a fair number in the country.

However KP/Mastercraft (whatever they are called now) are finally supposed to have their Mig-23BN kit ready this year !.

^ 23s only for the NVA-LSK.  Some (don't know how many) flew with WTD 61, the trials unit of the unified Luftwaffe. That alone would make it a perfect subject for Revell. I know about the Kopro kit, but I'm not exactly holding my breath on it. Not after they said their kit shown at the toy fair in Nuremberg was actually a three-year-old, heavily-modified build of an Academy kit!  :banghead:

I figured it might be a good idea to directly ask Revell. Who knows, maybe it'll work!  Maybe Kopro the duck-bills and Revell the pointy-nosed Floggers?
Cheers,
Moritz

So, if anyone's interested, you can read my in-box review of the Revell 1/72 F/A-18E Super Hornet HERE ON ARC:wacko: I thought about posting it here in this thread, but I figured it would break up the way things run in this thread.
Cheers,
Moritz

Neat review Moritz, thanks for sharing. Looks like RoG have put out a sweet little kit.

Kit #85-5527, 1/48th scale F-14D Tomcat/Bombcat
Here is a portion of the kit description from the Revell web page for this model:

QuoteArmament options include TARPS Pod, LANTRIN Pod, ECM Pod, AIM-54 Phoenix missiles, AIM-9 Sidewinders, AIM-7 Sparrow IIIs, 2000 lb. JDAM bombs, 500 lb. LGB bombs and 500 lb.Mk-82 bombs. Seated pilot or standing figures of pilot and radar officer plus two fuel tanks.

Optional decals included for F-14D Tomcat, BUNO 163894, VF-2 Bounty Hunters USS Constellation, "Last Tomcat Cruise", May, 2003 or F-14D Tomcat, BUNO 164348, VF-213 Black Lions, USS Carl Vinson, Operation Enduring Freedom, September, 2001. Molded in light gray and clear.

Has anyone purchased this kit?  This appears to be a recent release with a number of additional parts included to allow an attempt at building an F-14B or F-14D(?).  This is another F-14 kit from Revell that expands on the previous F-14D kit with additional weapons and the targeting pod.  Remarks on another forum suggest that the ejection seats are correct for the F-14A and F-14B but not for the F-14D.  Only the builder can really make that determination.  The addition of the JDAM shapes and the two flavors of the 500 pound Mk.82 series bombs (LGB and Dumb) are also a surprise.  If you can find it for a reasonable price it might be cheaper to consider one of these kits over purchasing individual aftermarket accessories.  The catch is to find it at a reasonable price.  I happened upon this kit in a local crafts store and was surprised by the spectacular price tag affixed to the box.  I see remarks on some of the other forums that suggest the price is substantially lower but have not seen any in-box reviews for this kit so the verdict is still out.

Personally, I am glad to see Revell bringing out an affordable option (provided you find the right source) that has the advantage of allowing younger people interested in the hobby without busting the bank to buy a buildable kit.

The local McHobby Shop (Hobby Town) had one on the shelf for $26 and change so I took a chance and purchased it.  The contents of the box were as I had originally suspected.  It is the original Monogram F-14A kit with the F-14D parts sprue from the second version as well as a new set of parts sprues for weapons and fuel tanks.  Not as nice as Hasegawa but definitely affordable and the extra parts will certainly be useful for anyone wanting to avoid purchase of hard to find aftermarket parts such as the new version of the AIM-9 Sidewinder launch rails that have the BOL countermeasures dispenser affixed to the rear of the launcher rail.  So a good deal for your fast-shrinking modeling dollars/pounds/euros.

Modelzone have the 1/78th Rotodyne in now, but at £17, I'm afraid I won't be getting one.

You can still get the Airfix kit for £11 from King Kit, just do a search on Rotodyne.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Two new kit reviews from Modellversium. for you to check out:

RoG Kit #03088, 1/35th scale Raketenjagdpanzer Jaguar 1. This is the tracked armored anti-tank guided missile vehicle armed with the HOT ATGM system.  Hopefully the whiners will not be sniveling about this kit like they did about the original JPK-90 kit when it was first released.

RoG Kit # 04698, 1/32nd scale Piper PA-18-150 Float Plane.  Interesting kit and judging by the images showing kit contents there are no main wheels for a land plane version just the floats.  Nice kit and considering how long the Piper aircraft have been around this is one subject that is long over due.

Browsing the Revell website looking for something completely different, I came across these two:

F/A-18D WILD WEASEL  and TORNADO GR Mk.1 RAF

The Tornado will be released in September, the Hornet in October. The website doesn't make any hints whether these will be based on the new toolings or not. I hope they'll be modifications of their own new tools. "New tools" is a bit of a stretch, given the F/A-18C has been out for a couple of years now.

Maybe that means we'll see a Rafale double-seater sometime soon as well. Would figure, as I just converted a single-seater.
Cheers,
Moritz
