Sorry to disagree Trev, but Fondrie Miniatures do a very nice and exceedingly expensive Mirage F-1 two seater in 1:48 (Cat No 6018 - 48euros) clicky linky. There's a separate fuel tank & weapons set coming out for it later this year too.

i really hope revell releases a new 1/144 F-16C model, cause the last one (ex-dragon) was really dissapointing, they should have went for the ex-italeri mold.

that new GR.7 looks really tempting, ive gonna get me one of those

Morning All,

As most would have seen by now on the various e-zines, Revell Germany has decided to set about reinventing the wheel and is going to produce a Lancaster in 72nd scale.

Now, I'm a Lanc fan and have fond memories wandering around the Australian War Museum under the wings of 'G for George' imagining the crump of exploding flak, the chatter of Brownings spitting lead into the night sky and all the rest, but do we really need another Lancaster in this scale???

Airfix and Matchbox produced kits that were acceptable in their day until the JMNs got a hold of the hobby and then Hasegawa brought out kits that were hailed as superlative.

I would rather have seen on of their Luft '46 projects, or even a Junkers G.38!! in 72nd scale personally (bugger me, even a nice new Halifax would be well recieved surely) and I can't fathom why another Lanc would be considered.  My only thought is that perhaps they've had a falling out with Hasegawa and weren't allowed to rebox the Hase kit so have decided to strike out on their own.

Does anyone know anything more?  I'd love to have a really good explanation as to why they'd produce this?

Regards,

Mav

I haven't seen the Haegawa one, is it that good ?

And I have to agree with you on the Halifax, I'd love to see a new one of those !

Mav,

I saw some Lanc sprues that RoG had on display at the IPMS Nationals last weekend.  They looked pretty damned good.  Yes, I'd like to see new types of aircraft get kitted by the majors but I also would like to see some of the old renderings brought up to modern standards.  Revell - particularly Revell of Germany - has a reputation for putting out high quality kits at affordable prices.  Their 1/72nd scale Me-262, for instance, is a real gem.

So, I agree with Wooksta on this one, in that their Lanc is likely to be high quality and a good chunk less expensive than the Hasegawa beast.

I guess this means I should get my old Matchbox Lanc out of storage and quickly on to eBay before word of this RoG kit gets spread to widely!

Hmm... I'm seeing a trend here!  I recently found that Revell is reissuing the old Battlestar Galactica kits of the Viper and Cylon Raider.  This reissuing will incorporate new moulding and detailing which makes the new superior to the old.  I've seen pics of the test shots and some of the lads over on Starship Modeler have actually been involved in the workups of these new kits.  That being said, I just got done selling my original issue Viper and Raider on eBay.  Looks like I've even more to go through now!

Hey Wooksta!!

Great news, the mighty uber-kits of Hasegawa have finally fallen flat on their azz!!  That'll be one that will play with the JMNs heads for some time I'm guessing and all the bowing and scraping that most reviewers do towards the firm will have to finally be taken with a bloody great grain of salt.  I always thought the Airfix Lanc wasn't that bad m'self but now Revell's product will no doubt be some serious stuff, especially if they pump out the variants they've been talking about.

Thanks for the info!!!

I do like that RoG is putting outthe new tooled Lanc. I remember looking at the Hasegawa Lanc when it first came out and seeing the nearly rivetless surface and wondering why they were charging so much. Having seen a real Lanc, I know they've got so many rivets you could grate cheese on them.

Personally, I'd like to see a new HP Hampden and Shorts Sterling in 1/72, but I have a feeling both will be long shots.

Getting off British bombers for a second, I can't wait until my LHS gets one of those new Zvezda 1/72 Petlyakov PE-8 kits in, man I wanna see one of those!

Its just because the original Revell Lancaster kits - Bomber & Dambuster have been regular sellers in the Revell range for the last 30-40 yrs. So like the FW-200 Condor last year they have replaced another of their worn out top sellers with a new tooled version.

A reboxed Hasegawa kit only brings them a small return and no long term profits, as the bagged kits are produced are bought from Haswegawa and reboxed in a two year marketing deal. The new Lancaster now remastered can now soldier on for another 20-40 yrs (well as they use CAD/CAM these days the tools can be recut alot easier so mould wear becomes less of an issue)

Only thing i noticed in the test shots was yet again no rear access door, it would have been nice for them to do that an a seperate part and put an interior into the rear fuselage (true not alot to see but would have been a nice touch). Some of the other forums have already noticed the optional Dambuster Parts so they will probably sell this kit in two boxings to replace both thier old kits. I doubt they will go for the big bomb versions as others have done however.

Picked up the A Model one - usual A-Model standard (nowt wrong with that) that will repay a carefull build and a little bit of time spent on her - she'll be nice
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I know there's people that would like to see rivets but IMO you don't see them except when standing near the aircraft.  I took this photo of the one in Nanton and the majority of rivets appear as lines.

I think for what it's worth, the model should have 'raised' panel lines where the modeller can if he/she wants, file the the lines into individual rivet heads.

Personally I think it's a waste of time as each rivet is only about 1/8" to 3/16" in diameter which when scaled down isn't much more than a pin prick and the spacing of each rivet is so small in 1/72 is equally minute.

I'm going to Calgary today so I'll drop by the museum and have a look at the Lanc they have there and take some photos of it.

This kit reviewer thanks you for your kind sentiments.

All you can do is write on the model as you find it, however we all have different standards regarding accuracy, what constitutes a reasonable fit etc.
