Revell - Colombo Express  Ref: R05241
MSRP: £24.99 (Euro32.49)
The keel of the container ship Colombo Express was laid in Corea in early november 2004. Its launching came 10 weeks later and delivery by the end of march 2005. With its carrying capability of 140.000 tons (!) the ship can carry over 8.750 containers. Sailing for shipping company Hapag-Lloyd, the Colombo Express 2005 is the world's largest container ship. The Asia-Europe-Asia route, with a stop-over in its home port Hamburg, lasts barely 56 days. Even with a height of 60 meter and a length of 335 meter it has a draft of less than 15 meters. Power: 68.640 kW/ 93.500 hp, speed 25 knots.

Now who is going to try and use this kit to build the ARAPAHO aviation support ship based on a container carrier?

sounds like one for me to do
Me, I'm dishonest, and you can always trust a dishonest man to be dishonest.
Honestly, it's the honest ones you have to watch out for!!!

Geez, you could almost fly a B--52 off that thing!

It looks very nicely detailed for a 1/700 ship, too (no "Aztec temple" stairs, for instance)

No waterline option which is a little odd for 1/700 scale. IPMS Germany also had test shot sprues of the 1/700 Queen Mary II in the same scale and again full hull !!!.

Both hulls are around the 300m size so could be used as base hulls for large fleet carriers upto super carrier size

Maybe next year they will do a supertanker

Modellversium has posted another kit review that might be of interest for anyone that is focused on Surface to Air Missile systems.
This time it is the old Revell (Renwal) HAWK Surface to Air Missile kt (1/32nd scale kit # 00016).

Tower Hobbies (in the US) lists it for $27.99, available late Sept.
I love that old Renwall boxtop art - the crew seems unconcerned about the soon-to-be-launched missile battery just a few feet away.

Built that about 4 years ago for a guy who I could never find after I finished it.  Think he got deployed and never heard back from him.

Hull shape's a bit "square" for a fleet carrier, but just right for an amphibious helo carrier (which needs the space more than it needs the speed.....

HMS Ocean's 208m long and the USN Wasps are 257m, so it's big, but not ridiculously so.

Would be very useful for a SCADS carrier.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Now to get a heap of Harriers in the same scale!!!

Now to get a heap of Harriers in the same scale!!!

Easy! Skywave makes two sets with AV-8Bs in them:

'The West Wings I' Aircraft, Vehicle Set

and

'Desert Shield 1' Aircraft, Armor Set

At that scale, any differences between Harrier Marks can be easily fixed with a swipe of an exacto blade or a spot of putty.

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?
