Bit of gossip from Bolton:

According to one of the traders, Revell have decided that they will NOT be re-releasing any more of the old Matchbox kits unless they are deemed as being up to current industry standards. Apparently a small manufacturer has approached them about buying the moulds, and been told something like "possibly, if we can find them". It seems that they're not all in a warehouse in Germany: some are scattered across the globe... :banghead:

I see them on Ebay quite often.

I also know of an Australian shop who's site claims they still have some in stock...

Apparently it's available in some branches of Argos now. I always find that bright coloured plastic puts me off a kit ? Makes them look toy like, but I suppose it attracts the younger modelers ?

Wouldn't the red coloured plastic make it easier to paint it red?  Assuming of course that you don't undercoat it first.

Means kids don't have to paint it, hence the various colour Matchbox kits.  Although why the early releases of the Tempest had a yellow plastic fuselage is beyond me.

Suprisingly in my experiance no. Difficult to get an overall clean coverage.

Modelstories have posted catalogue pics of the new Star Trek and Star Wars kits for 2011. New tool Enterprise and Klingon D-7 Trek kits are from the original series.
The SW kits are from the first movie and not more cartoon Clone Wars kits. Revell claim 1/57th scale for the TIE Fighter nbut modelstories say it is more like 1/32nd making it a match for the old Darth Vader TIE Fighter kit. The X-34 Landspeeder is 1/14th scale.

If you get an address, please let me know so that I can put in a request for HMS Exeter to make a come back.

That's frustrating. We tried to get in a boatload of Twin Otters, and of the 20 we ordered, we got 2 from our distributors. They were shorted by RevG as well, so they passed on the appropriate proportions to us! Grrrrrr! Considering I work in a hobbyshop in the city where Viking is manufacturing the Twin Otter, we knew we'd have a good market for them, and I'm sure it would be a good seller in  many spots as well. I've no idea what happened to that entire production run RevG did, but most of it never appears to made it to Canuckistan!

Interesting aside, and following from our friend from Canadastan says. I put my only Twotter on eBay in the summer. The guy who bought it was from Oz, he paid what I paid for the kit, but the postage was fairly hefty - I eMailed him first and asked if he really wanted to pay that sought of money... his response, 'we just cannot get them here, I want the kit, so I'll pay the price !'

Alvis if you want one (or two) for y'self, drop me a PM, OK ?

Alvis, can't you get them from Modelcraft, they used to do them too, I've got one in the stash somewhere.

Note that the gossip did NOT say "no more Matchbox stuff: full stop". What they've allegedly said is that they won't re-release them if they don't feel that the mould comes up to a high enough standard. Now I have no idea what that standard is: for all I know, they might judge the Twotter acceptable and keep it going.
