The BV222 is the highlight, would look so nice next to the Italeri Sunderland.

I like the Piper with a severe allergy to asphalt/concrete...veeeery interesting.

A lot of firms didn't invested in new tooling because of the recession which hit a few years ago and we are only just seeing that with the lead time on new kits

Steve's right and it will take a year or so to work out of the system. A lot of Europe is still in recession.

One thing I just noticed about the list:  Is it me or does the whole list just consist of original Revell toolings or companies they're associated with (like the Monogram P-61 or the Matchbox figure sets)? No reboxing of any other companies' kits?

The website for the Victorian Hobby Centre in Melbourne www.victorianhobbycentre.com.au lists the ex Monogram 1/72 RB-36H Peacemaker as being available to pre-order.  No suggested date is given.
I had no idea they were repopping this beast.  I always wanted one as a kid.  Purely because of the boast that it was "the largest plastic model aircraft ever made".  Size IS everything when you're 14 after all.

Now, Convair proposed a flying boat version of the XC-99 which used the B-36 wings...

They said a few years ago that they wern't going to re-pop any more of the Matchbox ones unless they were up to "modern standards".....

A word to the wise, try to get as old a release as you can, Monogram preferably. The newer releases (the last ten years or so) are showing serious signs of mold shrinkage etc with parts not fitting well anymore. This kit NEEDS to fit well .

The only trouble with that is the design and development teams will have shrunk to the bare minimum and it takes a while to bring them back up to strength and develop in to the required standard . The Airfix team are now cooking on gas but its taken them a god few years to start producing kits that we're now drooling in anticipation for.

I suspect one of the issues now is that the likes of Revell and Italeri made great use of the Czechs to design and develop their new kits, but those people are now focused on producing their own kits for their own brands reducing their capacity for third party work.

You're right in what you say Geoff, particularly regarding Airfix. There's a good little article on Zveda in SAMI and a couple of the numbers surprised me.

There is an old business maxim about starting up in a recession and they've shown how it can be done. Long may their well be bountiful and clear - and if they live in the Somerset levels it will be one but not t'other
