You're right in what you say Geoff, particularly regarding Airfix. There's a good little article on Zveda in SAMI and a couple of the numbers surprised me.

There is an old business maxim about starting up in a recession and they've shown how it can be done. Long may their well be bountiful and clear - and if they live in the Somerset levels it will be one but not t'other

It is called the Somerset levels for a reason, they just seem to of forgot than.

True, it was originally called the "Summer Country", as it was only dry land  in the summer season, and swamp/flooded meadow EVERY winter.

It doesn't stop any of us sympathising with everyone affected ,  it must be utterly horrendous for them

A lot of firms didn't invested in new tooling because of the recession which hit a few years ago and we are only just seeing that with the lead time on new kits

Steve's right and it will take a year or so to work out of the system. A lot of Europe is still in recession.

The only trouble with that is the design and development teams will have shrunk to the bare minimum and it takes a while to bring them back up to strength and develop in to the required standard . The Airfix team are now cooking on gas but its taken them a god few years to start producing kits that we're now drooling in anticipation for.

The less said about Airfix at the mo' the better...

Whny is that?

A word to the wise, try to get as old a release as you can, Monogram preferably. The newer releases (the last ten years or so) are showing serious signs of mold shrinkage etc with parts not fitting well anymore. This kit NEEDS to fit well .

Roger that.  I doubt i'll get one as i'm not allowed to hang them from the bedroom ceiling* anymore and display space is limiting me sizewise.  Shame though.

Since everything's WWI this year, why not have a 1/72nd biplane fighter attached to each blade? If you had an RE.8 followed by a Fokker Triplane follwed by a Camel followed by another Fokker and another Camel it'd look like a dogfight...... ;)

But you get a LOT of plastic for your money with the 222.

That launch tower would keep you in girders for EVER!  :o
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Captain Canada

I hadn't thought of that aspect Kit ! One of the reasons I wanted the Oil Rig from Revell......could build all sorts of launch mechanisms etc. from those kits eh ? Maybe a ZELL and a SkyHook ?

Hmmmmmmmmm, I might get away with that in the spare room.  It is after all where I keep my Biggles library.

Loioks like Revell have responded with  a short term fix for their rather lame release schedule for 2014, by adding a few more re-issues and reboxings, including a few from Heller such as the Concode in 72nd and CL-415.

Nice to see the Naval Merlin back out
