How about a RNZAF replacement for their Sunderlands?

Working on plans for one already, but based on the Sunderland. No wing sweep, 4 Allison T56s, T-tail, whatever else I can throw on.  ;)

If I was going to do further whif mods to the Seamaster, I'd probably re-engine it with four P&W JT4D-217 medium by-pass turbofans and reposition them to allow the use USB to shorten the takeoff run.

(For those doing performance comparisons, the JT4D-217 is to the late-model unaugmented J75 as the JT8D-217 is to a late-model J52).

IF I could afford such a kit, I'd naturally turn it into a land-based four-engined turboprop aircraft.

Jes' cause that's the kind of weirdo I am.

T-Tails.........
Styrene in my blood and an impressive void in my cranium.

Very cool kit indeed. Would look lovely in RCN colours !

;)

I too was checking out some of their other releases, and would like to get my hands on that butt-ugly VTOL Russian thing. Looks alot like a Carp or a Sucker fish !

Seamaster
u got more money than sence chris lol. as much as id like to add a seamaster to the stash, the current cash blockage means not any time soon
As i've said before Martin, I'm laying down the resin before I retire in 18 months or so

As for markings I was thinking FAA based in either the Med or Singapore. Maybe with a similar scheme to late WWII Costal Command ? Thorvic suggested a FAA "V" Bomber - Victory, Vengence, Vindictive ????

Vindictive ????

Ahhh a bitchy, spiteful bomber for the FAA...some would say thats appropriate. :P

I never did understand why Martin never designed the Seamaster as an amphibian.  While the weight of the landing gear would have cost some range and payload, at least there would have been the versatility of using the aircraft on land or water and with the ability to roll out of the water in a self-beaching mode on a suitable ramp, I would think that this would have been the preference for a large aircraft such as the Seamaster.

I've often thought of whiffing the Revell one that way, and there's one in the stash...  B)

HOLY THREAD REVIVAL Batman!

Found buried in the backwaters of the general modeling forum so it was transferred over to this forum where it will hopefully find some more face time for discussion.

The Sea Master as a weapon system was quite ahead of its time back then with the concept of strategic mining of seaways with long range aircraft that were basically a single mission type with little flexibility for anything but laying anti-shipping and anti-submarine mines in addition to the nuclear strike mission.

Personally I like the design but my concern was the internal bomb bay, always a weak point with that pnuematic sealing system that could go bad and literally sink your flying boat.  The other issue I had was with the shallow hull design.  The Sea Master sits far too low in the water to make it anything but a fair weather and moderate seas performer.  I would have preferred to see a deeper hull design and the wings sitting a bit further away from the water.  Perhaps with flip down wing tip mounted floats like those seen on the Catalina as a solution to the stability issue when afloat.  The weapons could have been carried in under wing panniers or exposed on individual pylons as one solution to the problem of where to put them, another idea would be a door in the fuselage that opened in similar fashion to the Sunderland to expose the weapons for delivery on a roll out tray.  Cumbersome?  Perhaps but it would allow the Sea Master to be converted to other missions such as SAR or MPA with plenty of room inside for mission peculiar equipment.

Cool idea with the winglets Bud, looks right!

Here's what I have planned for mine:

Yeah, I know the white stripe should be behind the wing, but with the sweepback it would get lost so in my universe the Canadian Coast Guard moved it in front on their examples. Got some CCG decals off Toad when I was down there a couple of weeks ago so this one may actually get finished soon.

I did a quick conversion of an existing image to come up with a deeper hull configuration of the Sea Master.  The picture should help convey what I was trying to describe much better than the usual verbage.

What scale?  I've got an Anigrand 1/72 one in the stash and I might just go along with you on this one, that is if you don't mind ?
