after a chat with one of Thorvics cohorts from IPMS Bolton at the Northern show, ive made plenty of use modelwise of my week off work. The guy in question (Pat) is a track head (he builds ground targets in other words), and Geoff was trying to get him to turn to the darkside. Now this guy is made of sterner stuff, and got nattering to me and we got onto the subject of what if? armour.  we concentrated on the Alvis Saracen/Saladin family. Its made a welcome change to building nothing but aircraft.

Here are the results.

Alvis Saladin light tank. JB models all the way here. The running gear is cut down M113 gear.

Alvis Lightweight Saracen. again a JB model. Lets see who cant tell why its a whiff  ;)

Alvis Saracen heavy half track. this one took a pair of saracens andan M113 to do, with a few bits, spare axles ect off both the Saladin and the light weight saracen.

And just to compleat things, the Tortoise super heavy tank., this is the cromwell models Combat ready range item, its a solid casting with just gun smoke gernade units and hatches to fit. picked this up at the Northern show, nice item to have on the shelf.

Group shot of the lot.

I always hope for the best.

Nice work Martin H! I really like the Saladin & Tortoise tanks. I'm darned if I can figure out why that armored car is a whiff though. It sure looks like something I've seen before. Maybe from the film 1984?

I like the Heavy Half and the Tortoise but all are cool. I have some armor waiting it's turn for some whifery.

Did you delete the center wheel set?

How are those JB Models for assembly, anyhow?  I have the Saladin and a couple of others but never tried putting glue on them.
Styrene in my blood and an impressive void in my cranium.

Nice ones Martin - have to get me one of them Tortoises.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

spot on there that man.  :D  yep the kit donated its center axels to the half track (looks like a milipede from underneath lol).

As for building the kits. Not a problem, they go togeather quite well, the plastic is very soft thou. I surpose by to days standards their quite crude kits, but were else r u gonna get a 76th scale Saracen, saladin, Bedford 4 tonner and a rake of landies for a few quid each?  B)  Im hopeing the rumours that JB has stopped production isnt true.
For those who dont know. JB models is a side line from the main buisness of makeing parts for several vacum cleaner companies. The kits are made from surplus plastic left over from the production runs, so the machines are kept busy, while the next run is set up.

JB kits are dead easy to build. Just do some dry fitting first before gluing as the instructions can be a little vague.

Those builds look great and the halftrack seems so realistic. I'm sure I've seen it in an old comic book years ago! Probably Commando!

Great ideas!! I love the tracked Saladin - simply brilliant.
I started a Saracen in bogus police markings, but didn't like the result.
Now I see that as a four-wheeler it would have made sense - hope you don't mind if I steal the idea.....
