Gary, I have a legit question.

What about "bird dogs"? Bird dogs have their own set of requirements (reasonable maintenance, good endurance and loiter ability, reasonable takeoff and landing runs, good low-speed maneuverability and so forth), so would it be acceptable to add a category for them as well? I dunno about prizes, but maybe just for honours...

To wit:

Not a bomber, but bombers need them...

If you want to have a bit more whiffing fun, re-engine it with TPE331/T76 engines for easier availability of parts and service.

WOW!! Do I like those profiles....The Be12 looks bellding awsome, and using ht ePucara as a spotter/FAC type bird is inspired.

Well, I now have kits (and the data to back them up) to do three possiblities for the first category. I figure I'll get a good head start on this one. Anyone out there doing the PFPS decals?

Was thinking about this at work today, what about having the planes sponsored by Evian or Perrier?

I'll get me coat.

I invite all and any criticism, except about Eric The Dog, it's not his fault he's stupid

I just had one of those "Why didn't I think of that??!!!" moments.  Mind you, I still have my little plan in work.

QuoteHere's a suggestion from the ANG? palletised systemsC130 Waterbomber

Apparently when the RAAF trialed the C-130 palletised system in the '90s(?)  they had problems with it (hence why it wasn't used again) - I believe the problems related to significant CG changes as the water was released.  When you consider the turbulent conditions over a fire, this is one of the last things you want.

Thought you guys might like this:

It's the proposed Groen Bros Aviation Monsoon, a gyrodyne water bomber, similar in design to the Fairey Rotodyne.  The advantages are that it can hover like a helicopter & transit as an aeroplane, carrying more payload & much less mechanicaly complex then a V-22.  The Rotodyne has already proven the technology nearly fifty years ago so it's definately a goer.

More info here: Groen Bros Monsoon (scroll half way down for the water bomber).

Most of their concepts are current types converted into gyrodynes, they propose converting a C-130 for military purposes, named the 'Talon III'.  Idea anyone???

Simon.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Well, THAT totally makes sense! <smacks head> Why didn't I think of that?

Oh, and for clarity's sake (and for that extra bit of cool) we in the GB should all get a number for each of our builds -- you know, to keep the fleet straight.

I pick 15 and 20!

Gary

Got the first category first Prize yesterday...finally.

The Hass. Shinimawa, a 4 engined turboprop flying boat. Beauty kit.

Ahhh so who's still in. I got the second first prize kit already, a PBY.  Second prizes for each category are spotter planes, third prizes are books or something like that.

Line up lads, tell me how many sets of decals to make.
Getting back into modeling

Me! Me! I already got three planes for the build lined up!
