QuoteEddie, does that section of the third engine with the air brakes come from a 1/48 Starfighter? If so, what kit? Rather than just filling the recesses I'll buy whatever Starfighter kit it is so I can steal the parts and we can have the air brakes open.
It was the Revell/ Monogram  F-104. I'll look for the originals here and if I have them, I'll send them your way. :)

QuoteHey there, how 'bout a pic of it now on YOUR workbench, Simon??

I'm working on it! I'm building some wing spars at the moment. This thing has to make another trip across the Atlantic and I want to build it as rugged as possible.

It's very nerve wracking working on something into which other people have put so much time and effort. The consequences of a mistake don't bear contemplating. I feel like I'm performing eye surgery on Keira Knightly.
Oh yeah, that's the ticket!  Thanks for sharing the photo of it on your bench.
And, like Eddie says, don't worry too much.

mmmm....Keira Knightly....

It's time for primer and the SF goes into my temporary spray booth.

There's a lot of work ahead yet, but I've got a few points for my fellow collaborators...

+ I've come up with an air brake solution so don't sweat it if you haven't got the originals

+ I've got a plan to decal it as a Tri-nation (USA - Canada - UK) technology demonstrator/prototype. Is that okay?

+ I assume we want it on its landing gear with the canopy open?

+ Any ideas on stores? I quite like it in 'kilo fit' with nothing attached.

I'm sorry, but I haven't been able to find those speed brakes. :(

1. The decals sound great
2. Landing gear and canopy idea is good
3. I think it should be without external stores as well. Nice and slick. B)

This is sooo cool to be able to be a part of this international effort :D

Simon,
I finally found the air brakes. Should I send them to you?

No, I don't need them now. I'm sure you'll find an inventive use for them in one of your projects. :D

I'm back from vacation now and heavily into the PSR zone on the Scrambled Fighter.

PSR finished, it's off the paint shop with it!

I need to protect JHM's meisterwerk cockpit from paint but the sills are very thin and I think it would be risky just to use masking tape. The canopy would obviously be the ideal thing to cover but we want the canopy open on the finished model. Has anybody ever temporarily attached a canopy in the closed position for painting purposes. I'm thinking something like PVA adhesive might do it.

Elmers white would work as well.

I've finished the metal sections.

I had to plan the painting of this using MS Project - what I want to do requires 27 masking and painting steps! I may be some time - talk amongst yourselves.
