What colour are the Typhoons painted? The German and Spanish a/c look bluer than the RAF or Italian but it could just be lighting.

Geoff_B

They are actually slightly different shades as each air force has its own paint suppliers. The RAF ones are to BS standard whilst the germans and Spanish are more to the RAL/FS standards. I would need to check the references regarding the RAF one when i get home, as for the others i'm not sure as the the latest kits are by Revell who insist on their own brand mixes rather than quote the actual paint reference.

RAF Typhoons (thanks to ARC Forum):

Overall BS381C 629 Camouflage (Barley) Grey
Cockpit BS381C 632 Dark Admiralty Grey
Leading and Trailingedge flap interiors FS595B 36280 (slightly lighter that RAF Ocean Grey)
Intake flap interior BS381C 626 Camouflage (Barley) Grey
Intakes (aft of intake flap) FS595B 26492
Radome FS595B 26492 - may have a brownish tint

Luftwaffe Typhoons (thanks to www.jpsmodell.de), assuming aiframe component colours remain the same:
Overall FS36320 Dark Ghost Grey
Cockpit BS381C 632 Dark Admiralty Grey
Leading and Trailingedge flap interiors FS595B 36280 (slightly lighter that RAF Ocean Grey)
Intake flap interior BS381C 626 Camouflage (Barley) Grey
Intakes (aft of intake flap) FS595B 26492
Radome around RAL 7030 Stone Grey

Can't find any information about Spanish, Italian or Austrian ones.

RAF aircraft are Camouflage Grey (Barley as was) overall, German aircraft are FS35237 and Italian ones are  FS36280. Don't know for Spanish aircraft.

Radomes are all the same colour - this was posted by Rob Monfea on the IPMS board a while back in relation to RAF aircraft.

QuoteRight, I've spoken to my sources next door in Eurofighter Flight Test and have gleaned the following information from a painting chart for the IPA (Instrumented Production Aircraft), which should also hold true for the Squadron jets:

The official colours are as follows:

Overall: BS381C no. 626 Camouflage (Barley) Grey.

Cockpit is BS381C no. 632 Dark Admiralty Grey.

Leading and trailing edge flap interiors: FS595B 36280 (Slightly lighter than RAF Ocean Grey).

Intake Flap interior: BS381C no. 626 Camouflage (Barley) Grey.

Intakes (Aft of intake flap - Inside intake ducting): FS595B 26492.

Radome: FS595B 36314 Flint Grey (This is supposedly an FS equivalent to Barley Grey, however looking at the real aircraft it appears to have a slight brownish
tint). I'd suggest adding a dash of Dark Earth to BS381C no. 626 and compare with this:

It's not an effing  jump jet.

I stand corrected and bow to superior knowledge.

If the Austrian ones are being assembled in Germany, will they have the Luftwaffe colour scheme?

Don't forget the Luftwaffe ones of JG54 on the Eastern Front in all white, like my 2-seater.
Then, the Swedish operated them in snow camouflaged version of the Viggen-type scheme.
The Swiss flew PINK ones, the Saudis several shades of sand, brown and green, the RNZAF in yellow and the whtever you do, remember the ones flown by the various military orders in the Holy Land

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Paint 'em pink!

Or do a Saudi bird in desert camo, or Japanese in F-2-like camo, or pink with blue-yellow flowers, and VW sign on front cockpit, and voila - ultimate hippy van.

Baldrick: No, but I have done a lot of Airfix models in my time.

Found this on another forum.

IIRC, some people here have unhealthy obsession with spats (spatophiles?). So there you go.
