Michael Benolkin from CyberModeler has an in-box review of the Academy #12703 MH-53 Sea Dragon in 1/48th scale available for your review.

The down side to this good news is the MSRP (USD) $99.95.  This sucks.  This really sucks.  Did I mention that this sucks?    To make matters worse, it is actually $10.00 more than the earlier release of the Academy CH-53 Super Sea Stallion with a MSRP of $89.00.  Did I mention that this price also sucks?

If you absolutely have to have one of these monsters go for it otherwise, consider the smaller 1/72nd scale Fujimi and Italeri MH-53 and CH-53 kits as a slightly less expensive alternative and use the money you save to buy some chocolates and champagne for the missus.

Must be Jenning's fee thats driven the price up ;)

But what *really* sucks is no JMSDF decals :(  As for building the Italeri kit, you haven't factored in the cost of counselling afterwards.  I lack the time, skills, patience and life-expectancy to build a decent kit out of that pile of cack.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

IPMS Deutschland has a first look at the contents of the new 1/48th scale Academy F-22 cRaptor

I would have to say that the upside of this new kit will mean many of the earlier Revell of Germany and Italeri cRaptor kits will become available for lower prices as the purists unload what they have in their stash to upgrade to this new and more expensive kit.  That being said, there are plenty of WHIF opportunities for the older kits.

Yet one more reason to rejoice in being a what-if only builder, I can use ANY kit for a what-if!!!

Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try.

That Raptor does look awesome and comes with a terrific decal sheet - shame they're all so boooooooooooooooooring :(

Ah well that's where a stash of JASDF decals comes in handy ;)

Way cool!    Endless whiffing possibilities. Think modules for tube artillery, rocket artillery, AAA and SAMs.

Wonder when we'll hear something of the 1/72 Lightning?

There are currently two kit reviews available for your viewing pleasure of the 1/48th scale Academy F-22A cRaptor (kit # 12212):

Modellversium cRaptor review

CyberModeler cRaptor review

What I find disturbing is the price differences in the kit reviews.  The modellversium review states that the price will be approximately ~30.00 € but the CyberModeler review says the MSRP is ~$69.00.  That is quite the mark up on the kit thanks to the thieving corporate monkeys that are your friendly (not) distributor.  Even the guy selling this same kit via his APO/FPO address over on ARC is giving a better deal than the thieving distributor.  If you can get it cheaper go for it!  Try to keep the distributors out of the transaction and hurt them if you can.

modelversium.de has just posted an in-box kit review of the Academy #13215, 1/35th scale R.O.K. Army K1A1 MBT for your viewing pleasure.

This just in from PMMS:

Academy new kit releases, coming in 2009/2010:

  • Swedish Army CV9040
  • M50 Ontos

Both of these are most welcome.  How long will we have to wait before we actually get to open up the box and take in the aroma of a brand new model kit in the box?

There is a god after all!  :drink:  CV90!

The pic shows a different version, though, methinks.  Ah, whatever! CV90, people!  This will be, without a doubt, the one model I'm lookin' forward to this year!
