I'm not sure I have another Twin Mustang for the fuselage, and converting a 'D' is almost impossible.

Nothing new under the sun! Had the idea to use an F-82 with the complete wing, but only one fuselage and new stabilizers to create a high-altitude interceptor version (think Me 109 --> BV 155). Turned out Wyrmshadow already did this a couple of pages back.

Here's the drawing anyway:

When looking at the profile of the F-82's long fuselage again, another thought hit me.

Just so.

This  high-altitude interceptor is simply brilliant  ! And why not a Griffon-Packard engine, or more radically a PW R4360 with VDT to escort Boeing B-54A  ?

A bit of info that I had forgotten, I've been re-reading the book 'Rolls Royce and the Mustang' by David Birch (because I was sure I've read somewhere that guns were to be installed next to the Merlin engine, but now I think that was possibly for the Hurricane), and I see that when N.A. were doing their converting of the P-51A to be powered by a Packard Merlin, it was known as the XP-78
