QuoteHey Rad. Whos gonna tell gary wenco (he of the Japanese sig) know about this little bueaty?

The gent in question did tell me once, that the Japanese did have a corsair, but there is no evidence to show that it ever wore meatballs or was even flown by the Japanese. He recons it wouldnt have been airworthy anyway as it was apparently washed up on a beech in Japanese held territory after ditching some were out to sea after the engine died.

Love the model btw  B)
There was that superb display the Japanese SIG put on at Telford a couple of years ago with captured aircraft in Japanese markings, don't know if someone did a Corsair or not, but I'm sure you could've slipped this beauty in there and no-one would have known better :)

I'm back cuz I can't get enough! It looks so good, in fact, that I'll probably do one myself. Once again, great work and cool subject B)

I agree, great looking build. I was thinking about a Japanese Corsair a couple of months ago, now after seeing yours I for sure want to do one!

Great looking model, have you ever got any hate mail for doing this type of model before? I did last year for building a Zero with different markings on it.

sort of I have been called a "Blaspheemer" and a"HERITIC" but my favorite was when i took the"CorZEKE" (obsolete name of the A4U/M ) to the LHS and was called by one of the regulars "A sick,Twisted and demented individual" and that what I had done was a sacralidge (he was a WWII marine Corsair mechanic ) but other than that a great looking model :P
P.S. I still need to build the "George"i got the decals from in WWII USN "Tricolor" cammo ;)

That's some great stuff there Wulf! As others have said, that prop spinner really pulls the entire build together!

This one is so wrong it's right!

when I first built it up and added the black cowl the prop just didn't look right not "Zeroish" enough so i looked at my references and nearly every Japanese aircraft had a spinner. So I added the spinner and the look of the entire aircraft changed :D

I showed this to my grandpa he said it had been "bastardized and sodomized." (He's a diehard corsair buff)  I kinda like it; you could almost pull off some kinda postwar back-story.  All together good work.

Thank your Grandpa for the compliments  Gawd you can feel the love  ROFLMFAO My great uncle flew corsairs (along with about every other navy fighter from 1938-1957 ) Methinks he would be spinning in his grave if he saw this :P
I have gotten a bit more done on the A4U/M with all decals now on and time to add the Greenhouse before this weekend ;)

OK Here's the back story

In mid 1943 the Imperial Japanese Navy carrier forces were hard pressed in the face of newer american and allied aircraft. Aircraft such as the Grumman Hellcat, the North American companies new Navalized P-51 Mustang, and the Hawker Sea Typhoon. In the face of devastating losses Japanese aircraft manufacturers began reevaluating the predominant design concept of "lighter is better".A rapid and in depth study of recovered allied wrecks and samples of aircraft from their German allies, showed the rugged construction of the enemy fighters was instrumental in pilot survivability. Armed with this knowledge the engineers at Mitsubishi built three different fighter designs using standard japanese engines, all of which were woefully underpowered. At this time the Mitsubishi engineers had the opportunity to study a Republic P47 Thunderbolt captured INTACT! The engineers were amazed at the speed and power of the monsterous American fighter. With this information that the higher power of the larger engine would offset the weight of the aircraft, they designed a large double row 16 cylinder radial engine to be installed in the #4 fighter design. the performance of the new aircraft even with a very heavy armament package as well as armor for vital components was outstanding. The first A4U/M-1 armed with two German designed 20mm canon as well as four 7.7mm machine guns. The first operational debut of the A4U/M-1 was at the attempted US landings at Leyte gulf where a force of over 400 IJN and IJA aircraft including 165 A4U/M-1 Kaizoku fighters in a drastic reversal of "The great Marianias turkey shoot" downed over 700 American aircraft alowing Admiral Ozawa's "Sho 1 plan" to drive off the american task force. The victory at leyte was not without serious loss as almost all Admiral Nishimura's southern force was Decimated in the night battle of Surigaio strait. The northern forse of Admiral Takao Kurita under an umbrella of IJN fighters including 80 A4U/M "Kaizoku"(pirate) fighters fell upon the Leyte landing force scattering them and making the landing impossible. However in japan The Emperor as well as many other high ranking officers and officials reailized that Defeat while now longer in coming was still inevitable. when the emperor called for peace negotiations prime minister Tojo attempted a Coup,The Coup was defeated and Tojo was executed for treason. With the death of tojo the Emperor was able to negotiate a peace with the allies in late 1944
More to come ;)
