Here are some new WIP pics of the Hortens I have been working on.

The 1/48 scale DML Horten Ho 229B

The same model but a different angle with color removed, notice how well the plane blends in with the background. Very effective camouflage!

Here is a shot of the uppersurface of the 1/72 scale PM Horten Ho 229.

Both of these models should be finished in about two weeks.

You were able to do that kind of thin scribble camo in 1:72????

Ian, where and when is our next knitting class???

AWESOME!

I need to get a finer needle and head for my airbrush....heck I think I'll just put a new airbrush on my Christmas list this year, mine is twenty four years old!

Still works pretty good I just need a little spoiling  ;)

Oh Matrix, you really do know how to make my day! First your kind words regarding my short-lived absence from this superb place, and now you cause me whiffgasms aplenty with this mindboggling selection?

That is bleeding awsome Matrix. The photography is stunning. The black and white shot is superb. The Horton herself is simply beautiful. The cammo, especially the ripple cammo is nothing short of amazing.

Thanks John, Jeff, Brian, Zac, and lancer!

Jeff,
I used a Badger 150 and used the fine needle and head assembly.
When I am trying to spray fine lines or mottle camouflage on the tiny 1/72 scale models I thin my paint a little more than usual and reduce the air flow to the airbrush. Paints used are model master enamels.

Zac,
Glad to know you will be back!
I should let you know about a new book that will be out in a few weeks, ''The Spirit of Thuringia''. This book will be about all the Horten flying wings and have much recently unearthed information and pictures...this book is a 'must' if you like the German flying wings.

Matrix, I use a badger 150 also but I damaged the fine head a Loooong time ago and for some dumb reason never replaced it...I have been using the medium head ever since.

I have already hinted to the wife unit that that's what I want for Christmas ;)

I have the PM Horton in 1/72 and all I can say is you've done wonders with that kit.

Thank you Alvis 3.1!

Jeff,
I have damaged the Badger fine head before by pushing the needle in with too much force and distorted the end of it just enough to where it would not spray correctly, the only fix was to get another fine head assembly. I am much more careful now when I handle the airbrush parts when cleaning them!

That PM kit is crude but not that bad, I will see if the model turns out good or bad in a couple weeks.

The DML kit has given me a lot of trouble, a few of the parts for the landing gear were broken even while they were still attatched to the sprue. :(

Once again, you have set another standard for finishing...wow...fantastic!

matrixone

Thanks very much Greg!

I look forward to finishing these Hortens, not because I am in hurry to see how they will look but I want to start some new projects! I have been working on the same five models for quite a while and can barely see my work bench because of all the clutter of model parts and paints. From now on I will only work on two models at a time, five is too much and is effecting quality.

Friday Fed-Ex brought me the new DML He 162/Me 262 Mistel kit and I might do that one next, but I will need a clear work bench for that project because there is a LOT of plastic in that kit. :D
