I didn't use to like Meteors, but they've grown on me.  Especially since, until now, there didn't seem to be any in 1/72.

Those wings look kinda short to me  :P

I want a meteorite but my wife says I can't spend $5,000 on a rock from outer space....I said but it's FROM OUTERSPACE! Apparently that wasn't good enough :(

I do think the 1/72 Meteor model however shows promise :)

Nice to see they've not forgotten about it :)

There are quite a few Meteors in 1/72:

On Hannants' website for instance:

http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/index.php...%5B%5D=code+asc

And I have a couple of Aeroclub Meteors, a T Mk.7 and a Mk.8 in 1/72 but these don't seem to be in production at the moment.  Then there's the Frog Mk.IV (OOP but still obtainable) and the Airfix Mk.III and don't forget the Revell/Matchbox nightfighters.

I have ten Meteors altogether and one has been converted into the Trent Meteor (world's first turbo-prop) which can got from Unicraft.

QuoteAbout 5.

Hopefully, they'll do a full family and they're probably pantographed down from the CA ones.  Which means that there'll be an NF11/12 and possibly an F4.  If this is indeed the case, with a bit of cross kitting, you should be able to get most of the Meteor family out of the Special Hobby kits.

The FR9 nose should be a separate piece - that being the first for release as the artwork is on the web.  Not to sure about the nosegear assembly being in three bits though (I'll go with an Aeroclub one as it'll help weigh the nose down and that is ALWAYS a problem with Meatboxes) and I'm not convinced about their method with the tailplanes either.  But the cockpit looks nicely detailed (apart from the nosegear housing) and not with resin either. I suspect the bang seat is a resin extra.  You get both underwing tanks too, the belly tank was generally fitted as standard.  Wings & u/c must be on the other sprue.

They'll not be as much fun as the Airfix one though.
Just love nightfighters Meteors with their big nose! But the framed canopy was really ugly... fortunately, the NF-14 had a bubble canopy. And I'm really fond off this version of the Meteor...If I can find a NF-14 in 1/72 scale, I would add swept wings and firestreak missiles to it...differents engines maybe...

French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

Well this has just been announced on the Hannants website:

http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=XK72001

Seems like everyone is making a 1/72 Meteor now

QuoteIt's exactly the same kit!

I just wonder what the mark up will be...
One does wonder, since no price is mentioned.  My guess is it's going to be mighty expensive per unit volume of plastic.  Mr. Hannant (both senior and junior) has expensive hobbies (and I ain't talkin' plastic airplanes).

Well if it's Special Hobby my guess would be £10 to £14 ?

When I saw that this morning my first though was "have Hannants commissioned it" ? After all one of the French Magazines commissions French AF stuff via Azur - would seem like a good idea to me, and if so more power to their elbow I say.

Chris

PS - Jennings - I've got an expensive hobby - kepping the Hannants family in their's  :P

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

On the subject of Meteors, does anyone do a conversion for the Beryl-powered prototype?  I've always thought that the most aesthetically appealing one.

I don't think there is but this is the one I'm building.  Only it's the early Metrovick F.2 engined one not a Beryl (F.2/4 I think)

Yeah, that's the one.  I'd appreciate any hints/tips you could offer on doing the conversion or where such a conversion kit is available.

Thanks,
Evan
