Hobby Boss Kits

Yeah I have the same problem here. I live about 10mins away from the largest Canadian military base (and supposed to be largest in the commonwealth), and they have the same LAVIIIs that you guys have in Oz (well pretty much the same). Anyway, 2 companies make conversion kits for them, AEF, and Real Model. The going rate on the AEF conversion is $70 (plus the price of an AFV Club Stryker kit), the Real Model one, about $140.

Now granted, the Real Model one, not only comes with all the resin bits to make it into a CDN LAVIII, but also comes with 3-4 full sheets of PE, Ration boxes, etc, etc.

Yeah it comes with all of that extra stuff, but it still has a price tag of $140, as opposed to the AEF kit of $70. Its hard enough to convince and sell an aftermarket conversion kit for $70, never mind $140, despite what it comes with!!

That, plus AEF does conversions for not only the LAVIII w/25mm turret, but also the LAVIII TUA, Coyote (CDN version of the LAV-25 or ASLAV), and Early Bison (Command, Ambulance recon version of the LAV-25/ASLAV). So I was actually better off bringing in the AEF stuff. Fortunately AEF will sell to me direct, so there is no middle man making their pound of flesh on it.

Yeah the CDN suppliers want you to have a nice cozy and expensive store front, or they won't even entertain the thought of selling to you. Meanwhile, some prominent suppliers in the US, (Squadron, Stevens, Sprue Bros), don't have a problem taking my money and selling to me. It gets shipped to a PO box in Maine (which is only about an hr away) so I save on shipping as well. As far as the sales tax at the border...well I have to pay that anyway, but by having it shipped to Maine, and me picking it up, I save not only on the UPS Shipping (Difference of probably $40-$60 an order), but also on UPS's brokerage fees, which can run as much as $60 per order. So if I get an order in from all 3 of my suppliers, and I pick it up in Maine, I save about $180 in brokerage fees (as I then act as my own broker), and another $100-$150 in shipping fees.

Too bad for the Canadian suppliers that don't want to sell to me!! LOL
Thanks
Scott

G'day Gang,

Modellversium have just put up a review of the Hobby Boss F/A-18D.  A bit of a giggle is the 'MARINES' titles on the Box Art ship, which is from VFA-106, although this is corrected within the painting guide.

G'day Gang,

The N/AW A-10 is up on Modellversium.  Predictably without stores or FLIR pod & in that 'Easy Kit' style, but still nice to see a twin tub Hog.

PMMS has got a couple of in progress shots of the V-150 & XM-706 coming from Hobby Boss, along with photos of that which they have in the 'pipeline'.  Great to see injected kits of this particular family as the glut of LAVs & Strykers was getting old real quick.

GZ,

I had posted a link regarding this a few days back, along with their V-100.  I'd hate to consider the V-150 an 'APC' though, more WFV (wheeled fighting vehicle), but it's certainly one on my want list.

Now that there is an injection molded V150 on the way, I wonder if there will be a renewed interest in those role playing games such as the Morrow Project and T2K?

Yes, but Trumpeter kits, and not least, affordable Trumpeter kits, are rare on this part of the planet :(

Over on Britmodeller, the guys reckon here in the UK it will be retailing around £16.00  - That's roughly $33.00 or E23.00...... ripe for Whiffing methinks !
