I could easily imagine a big career for such an aircraft!!

For Vietnam and Baltic states as anti-ship (or anti-sampan!  :P ) like it was said, but also as a CAS aircraft...

A more CAS speciallised variant could be derived with a pair of 30 mm guns and be massively deployed in South and Central America, like upnorth said, but also in Germany and other NATO countries!! Just imagine it with German, UK or French markings, beeing based in Germany to counter the WarPac tank forces!!

That's the spirit !

Looking good so far, and a great idea as well. I was gonna suggest early Vietnam, but it looks like that was the plan all along. My only suggestion would be to skip the underwing gun pods and go with rockets. Those pods will just look too big and goofy under that staright wing.....now, if you could somehow manage to attach them to the fuselage sides, onb angles or somat......

Anyway, great job, and a really cool idea ! I've always wanted to build a Scorpion. One of these days !

And as a footnote, I always thought that one would look really cool in that Belgian cam, like their 104s wore.

Man, I just wish I could get some of my own weathering to look like your wingtip pods do in these pics.  Yeah, I know you'll paint them over but I really like them just the way they are...

Dunno if I'm too late with my suggestion here, but what about doing it in US Coast Guard markings (with camo something like the SP-2H Neptunes)? The USCG operated riverine patrols in Vietnam, so something like this is just the thing to support the brown-water guys...

Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part...

Sisko,

I guess you weren't the first to look at big guns in the F-89.  Here is something Northrop/USAF played with (though these were only 30mm):

QuoteDoes BFG mean 'Big F*cking Gun'?

No, it means Bio Force Gun. Haven't you played/seen DOOM??? ;)

Arrrrgh those bloody intakes!!!!!

It's taken me the better part of two days of filling and sanding to get them looking halfway decent. I am happy with it now. It is no show winner but it will do.

I have done the first two topside colours. I would have done the third but my compressor shat itself just as I was about to start the final colour so I had pull it apart and fix it.

Thus my enthusiasm for continuing the painting was gone.

So here it is so far.

Another look.

The camo is freehand I tend to use freehand when I can because Ii can get a better feathered edges.

I don't mean to be a pain in the arse, but where would the nose wheel gear be?

The nose wheel bay starts about in line with the intake fronts so should clear any thing on this aircraft

The nose wheel sits behind the BFG.

That is why I always thought that this aircraft would make such a good ground attack aircraft.

The landing gear orientation means that it has a rather large nose to mount offensive weaponery.
