Dammit Matrix,....I just put coffee all over my work laptop reading that comment...Hilarious
If you love, love without reservation; If you fight, fight without fear - THAT is the way of the warrior

If you go into battle knowing you will die, then you will live. If you go into battle hoping to live, then you will die

lancer,

I wonder how true it is. :D  :D  :dum:

just make sure that you don't put aquafresh on your hemorrhoids...maybe that's why the JMN's are so cranky...nothing chafes like flouride in the wrong end.

matrix - you are a master at your craft...let these sad misguided fools see the fruit of your labours and weep.

QuoteA few days ago on another modelling site there was a discussion about what-if models and the people who build them, a couple JMNs were poking fun at our type of models and our lack of building skills to produce an accurate model of a 'real' subject. This sort of pissed me off and I decided my next model will be another 'real' model and prove we can build models as good as they can.

I will be back to building whiffs when I have made my point.

Thanks for the support retro-seventies, Thorvic, Marten H, and Wooksta!

retro-seventies and Marten H,
For over two years the Hasegawa Bf 109G-14 has been collecting dust on my build pile so now is as good a time as any to build it, I did not buy the kit just to make a point to the JMN jerks but I still want to show that I CAN build a model of a real a/c nearly as good as they can but I CHOOSE to build what-ifs because they are more FUN. B)

Wooksta!,
The Bf 109G-14 and G-10 had an extra battery mounted in the fuselage behind the pilots headrest, and you are correct about them using MW50. The K-4 did not have the battery box mounted in the same spot but it did use the same size MW50 tank as the G-14 and G-10s.
The a/c I am doing is a Bf 109G-14 (white 21) W.Nr. 464549 of II./JG 52 one of many Bf 109s that flew to Neubiberg Germany to surrender to American forces in May 1945.
Two of the pictures I have of this a/c show the battery box either removed by the Americans or was never there to start with. Yet EVERY reference book I have on Bf 109G-14s state that they all had the battery box, the EagleCals decal sheet instructions for the G-14 I am doing also question if the battery box was used or not, and EagleCals are known for their accuracy so if they are not sure about it then who is?
Just to be on the safe side I AM using the part I found in my K-4 kit that has the battery box.

Thanks Wooksta,

Two pictures of the G-14 are profile pictures with the canopy closed and I can't say for certain if it has the battery box or not, but I agree if it does not have one it was likely a recycled airframe, there was so many 109s being recycled near the end of the war that some of them are hard to identify as to what sub-type they were. The Bf 109 in the Australian War Memorial Museum (W.Nr. 163824) is a fine example of a recycled 109, check out all the different colors on that one!

It funny you should mention ''Warbirds of the Third Reich'', that was the very first book on German a/c I ever bought (in 1977) and have been hooked ever since. Of course the information on late 109s is wrong in that book, but that book was how I first learned about the Ho 229, Me P1011, and the Ta 152. Great stuff way back in 1977!

Dude, give them "what-for" from all of us!  Actually, I see you're well on your way to doing that already

In addition to Preparation-H as toothpaste, they probably use KY as hair gel, considering all the @$$ kissing they do to one another (and I have no clue what site you're talking about, but I know of at least two it could be).

Some new pics of the builds as of this weekend...

The Bf 109G-14...

The wings are not glued on yet, I still have to sand off some Mr. Surfacer from the leading edges. The fit of the wings to the fuselage is so good they will not need any filler at all, just glue. This is a great kit!

The He 162...

The nose gear assembly may appear to be over-weathered as it looks now but after the landing gear is given a very light spray of dirt colored paint and the flat coat the weathering should look just right when the model is finished. This model will get much weathering and have a ''used'' look to it.
