Matrix, I too loved WWII German aircraft when I was young, heck most all of the German military stuff seemed way sexier in design and markings than any other.

It's hard to convince folks that you can love the equipment without loving the ideals that put the equipment into play. I love my Springfield XD 40 handgun but that doesn't mean I'm eager to shoot somebody with it. I do enjoy going to the range and killing paper targets though! I enjoy building models that I think are nicely designed or interesting looking regardless of their political origin.

I enjoy your builds and understand and appreciate your passion for the subject matter. I have been browsing Ebay for some of the early jets but am trying to find them for a price I can swallow.

Jeff,
The German WWII aircraft are not the only machines that I find interesting, the King Tiger and the Panther tanks are good looking machines and have always wanted to build a model of them and paint them in the Ambush scheme.
I do have the Academy kit of the Opel Blitz fuel truck and I intend to paint it in the Ambush scheme. A what-if fuel truck for my what-if planes.

The airframes are mostly built now, I sprayed on the base coat and the pre-shading.
The He 162 has the dark lines on the forward fuselage not because there were visable panel lines on the full size machine but it is to represent the putty lines just barely visable under the camouflage paint on the aircraft I am modelling.

Next weekend the uppersufaces of these models will get their base coats and pre-shading. I just finished painting the undersurfaces a few minutes ago and blended in the pre-shading and it worked just like I wanted it to...these might be the best models I have ever built so far, but there is still a few things that could go wrong yet so I won't get too excited until they are done! Looking good Matrixone! I can't wait to see your next update.

Thanks Brian!

Next update should be more interesting.

Painting these models will take more time than usual because of the weathering effects I will be using.

Looks like your off to a great start :)

Thanks Jeff!

The easy part of making these models is over, the hard work is now beginning and I can only hope all the painting effects I will be using are worth the trouble, I can't wait to get back to work on the models this next weekend. :)

I have used my extra day off from work this week wisely, most of the camouflage painting is done on the G-14 and He 162...much of the painting was done today and it was more work put into it than it would first appear, the slight weathering of the paint work takes a lot of time to do and it is not easy to get it to look realistic. These pictures do not show the weathering effects very well because of the poor lighting conditions I had when the pictures were taken but the models look pretty good in person. The rest of the weathering effects will be added after the decals are put on, I can't wait to get started on that part! :D

Wow Matrixone your work on that 109 continues to impress! I am particularly struck by the subtlety you achieve in the tones and I really like your treatment of the yellow band near the nose and on the rudder.

I'm really looking forward to seeing more!

Thanks for the comments Brian!

Both the 109 and 162 have most of their markings on now, the 109 will get more painting done to it before I add the ''21'' to the fuselage sides, I need to blend in the markings to make them appear as weathered as the paint job before adding the aircraft number. Why am I going through all this trouble you might be wondering? The airplane I am doing had its original a/c number painted over and was re-marked as ''white 21'' and that paint would not be as weathered as the rest of the aircraft. A lot of extra work but I think it will be worth it.

In these latest pics the yellow markings don't show the weathered slightly patchy effect I added to them, the pictures were taken in poor light conditions. Both these models look much better than they appear in my pics and if the crappy weather here in the Northwest ever breaks I hope to be able to show you in my next update with better pictures.

I'm enjoying this build a lot.

Thanks for sharing.

Get this Cheese to sick bay!

Thanks Sisko!

I will be trying to weather this model (the 109) as much as I can without going
over the top.

Rafael,

Thanks for the comment about the model!

Here is another pic of the 109 with some of the markings on it.
