Graft on the nose from a DB-type powered aircraft...my preference would be the Ki 61.
Early in the design of the Merlin an inverted layout was considered.

Or maybe a re-engined captured version to compliment this DB - Spitfire:

Radial engined, "borrowing" the basic radial-engine installation of a T-28?  I suspect this was derived from NAA's radial-engined Mustang studies.

An "upgunned version" retaining the 4x 20mm cannon of some original Allison-powered Mustangs?  (watch the JMNs have a coronary - but since the wings are[/u] basically interchangeable due to their one-piece nature, you "just" say it was a salvage yard special and do it up colorfully like some of the war-weary ones used for transport).

If you can find a copy of "Debden Eagles" on the 4th Fighter Group, there's a picture in there that's always intrigued the daylights out of me and it'd make a great build.  It's a D-model that's had the canopy sectioned to slide in two parts, a second seat added, and radar antennae on the wings.  I've never seen any other info on this mod, but it sure would be an interesting one to model.

Just my $0.02,

Get another one, make a zwilling, paint it antiflash white, RAF roundels and scratchbuild a B61 nuke. Mustang Instant Sunshine.

Or make it with a pattern of pink, Blue Angel blue and day-glo orange, than go to model show and watch your 'stang as it makes people go into epileptic seizures. Or take some 'mind altering' substances and watch it change its preeeetyyy coolooouursss...

Woodstock low visibility in rainbow colors and 'peace' signs as a roundels?

Baldrick: I followed Mr Da Vinci's instructions to the letter.
Blackadder: Even though you can't actually read.
Baldrick: No, but I have done a lot of Airfix models in my time.

Well, I've been messing around with this, and I still don't have an exact plan, but I've got several cool mods in mind. First off, as I said earlier, the ejection seat from the Monogram Panther fits perfectly. Also, since I'm removing the 30mikes from my Revell 262, why not the 4 of those? Some of you may have noticed my current kick of re-engining WW2 aircraft with modern turboprops, and I noticed the cowling of the PT6 from the PC-9/Texan 2 isn't much different from the Mustang cowl. So it's gonna have a turboprop, but hopefully more painlessly than JHM's turbo-stang, along with a fully feathering prop from the modified kit part. I've got some options of the armament, and I'll need some input. I can either: 1. Use the kit pylons to mount 2 of the small bombs from the Panther, 2. Modify the kit pylons to fit 4 of the Panther's small bombs, or 3. Use the kit pylons and the 262's huge bombs. I've also got options for rockets, 1. Use the HVARs(6) and pylons from the Panther, or 2. I could scratchbuild the LAU-10 4-shot 5inch tubes. What do you guys think? For schemes I'm thinknig either S. Africa or Aussie, but I'm still open to suggestions. Thanks for all your input so far.
