This whatif is done around a bad sale in ebay: this Frog's DH Hornet lacked wheels, propelers and other small bits. The seller refund full price. Then I thought it would be a nice whatif, because IMHO DH Hornet is very cool. As I did not find weapons to fit with my aesthetic criteria, I choose an unarmed role: recce. But then, I knew about P-38 ambulance. http://www.warbirdsresourcegroup.org/URG/i...ages/p38-33.jpg . So I added this secondary role.

The aesthetic criteria were also the reason to change fin shape to make it more similar to that of tail plane and wings. Props and wheels are from an old Novo/Frog P-38.

In the open stretcher pod you can see the board and rails to support the stretcher. Well, I have to admit that the passenger will not have a confortable flight. :(

A point on the engines. The model came with only a piece with 5 exhaust pipes. But Hornet's engines have 12 cylinders, no?  Anyway I took the exhaust pipes from an Airfix Bf-110, only one piece for each side. A total of 12 exhaust pipes, 6 for each hand. Then I split the pieces in separate exhaust pipes and share the pipes out, 3 per cylinder block, 2 cylinder per pipe. The new props were three bladed, this point and exhaust's one make me think in a lightly derated engine. I am not an expert in British engines genealogy, but I think that there is a lot of British engines experts in this forun, to propose a new engine that fits with pipes, props and nacelles.

Wow is that cool, ysi! I really like your modifications, and I think you're right, those stretcher cases would be in for a wild ride! Great stuff!

Is this a tiny window above the stretcher head ? What a pleasant sight towards the stars... (anf forthcoming Heaven?):D

Actually, a similar pod was designed for the Su-25 Frogfoot! But it was meant as transport, not medevac. It was never put in real service, coz it was too uncomfortable.

Lovely stuff ysi!  I've always liked the Hornet.

More recentley was the Avpro EXINT (extraction/insertion) pod.  It was designed to be fitted on Harriers & combat helicopters & two people could fit in each pod.  I'm pretty sure there was a medevac version planned.  Dissapeared along with Avpro.

IIRC there was also a parachuted version that was designed to be dropped rather like a bomb!  Rather Johnny SAS than me.....   :dum:
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Sure, they were taken from the Hobbycraft Frogfoot ^_^

QuoteA single seater wouldn't have the ASH nightfighter radar either.

Interesting fact about Hornets - one of the nacelles should be slightly longer at the front than the other.  On the real aircraft, one was an inch longer to accept the gearing for the handed props.
I did not think in a radar for the nose radome but an array of pasive electronic sensors.

I used the P-38 props becase 1) I already have them 2) they are handed. To change the hand of a prop is beyond my skills :(

Which nacelle is longer? I have a complete kit to build it as a factual model. To make you happy with tailfin shape

Well, one day
