What do you plan to build in near future?

I came across the Xi'an H-8 on tumblr, it's basically a Tu-16 Badger copied by China with an extended fuselage with four Rolls-Royce Spey engines. Two mounted on pylons under the wings and the fuselage engines replaced with Speys. The prototype flew in 1978.
This got me thinking, why not use the engines from the Airfix HS/BAe Nimrod MR1/MR2 or the vacform kit. I managed to get a cheap Trumpeter 1/72  Xian JHU-6 tanker on eBay with the intention of doing an AEW version. I could combine the two and use the Tu-16 engines on the Nimrod.. There was a six engine proposal drawn up for the Royal Canadian Air Force. Maybe a T-tail and two rear mounted engines might be a better option.
Just done a dry fit and the curvature of the Nimrod wing to the engine bay is almost an exact fit with the Badgers wing. The Nimrod wing section will need cutting down to fit the Badgers' fuselage. Two interesting future builds.

The 1/72 Northrop X/YB-35 looks like a plausible candidate for a transformation into a troop transporter or airliner. The wing looks deep enough for a row of seats either side of the cockpit. The roof would be clear plastic with a grid painted over the top to simulate the glass panels or careful cutting of the plastic, a false floor with seats. I could use the ones from the Revell Rotodyne kit or Mach2 Caravelle.

Umm, yeah Northrop thought so as well:

That has a certain 'Airship Feel' to it. Perhaps it's the ultra-wide cabin, for those days anyway?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Thanks for the info and picture. The was an EB-35B , with Northrop T-37 turboprop engines. I'll check my spare parts bin for alternatives.
Could use the engines from a Frog B-47  as well as the ones in the X/YB-35. YB-35C Star Burst.

00/H0 whiff train layout (end to end) based around the theme of Harry Potter.
Got the idea for the castle from Glenn. Got an Airfix static locomotive kit that I can turn into the Hogwarts Express and the carriages will be painted in the various house colours.
Hogsmead will be a combination of SuperQuick card kits.

Aircraft from "the wind rises" dressed as a taube.

Edit: tempted to scalearama it down to 1:72 so it'll be a big bird. Might try to make her a 2 seater too.

The Wooksta!

Not planning on building anything new - for a while anyway.  Wanting to finish stuff that's been kicking around unfinished for ages - Tempests, Mosquitos, a Shackleton, Lancasters and many, many Spitfires.

Gondor

Talking of Tempests and their ilk, thinking about building to Hawker projects, a P.1009 and a P.1027. Got the majority of bits and drawings scaled to 1/72 for both and am sourly tempted to go right ahead and start them, trying to hold of so that like Lee I can clear some of the backlog  :banghead:

After I finish my SBY Cosmo Falcon which should be either tonight or tomorrow, I'll start to go to work on my ASF-X Shinden maybe Weds. which I have a thread here:
http://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php/topic,43504.0.html
After the Shinden is done, I'm not sure what I'll do next.  :-\
Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

Did anyone build a KC-121 Constellation?
I tried using the flying boom from a KC-135, but I could use the boom from the KB-29P depends if the Hasegawa Lockheed Neptune gets damaged in transit.
If I can get a HP Halton conversion set, I'll use this as a guide for the vacform Avro Lincoln in-flight refuelling tanker.

The Wooksta!

A Blenheim If needs priming.  I've a hankering to make a start on yet another Beaufighter, but I'll need to do some moulding first as I'll need to copy the turret from the High Planes turret Beau.

The plan is to build every kit in the stash using parts from the spares box.
The Northrop flying wing airliner concept had a layout for 80 seats, where as Convair did something similar with a stretched twin tail with or without a front cockpit. 40-100 passengers.
As for the 1/72 B-52G the seaplane concept is viable. I could put in a deck and scratch build some seats. This might not have worked in the real world as a passenger airliner, but makes an interesting concept model.
The vacform 1/72 VC10 with the lower fuselage from a HS/BAe Nimrod. With the leftovers from the Nimrod convert this into a airliner using plastic card for strength and  shape.

The Erieye AEW radar system, got the prototype 1/72 RVHP resin Metroliner kit in the stash.
I have been using plastic card to scratch build the radome to fit on top of the Airfix Jetstream and HS 125 .
Other aircraft such as the turbo Dakota, Sud Caravelle and HS/BAe Nimrod are possible candidates.
I was thinking if it had been thought of earlier it could fit on top of my Avro Shackateer. The radome would need to be stretched in length and a stand made for it.
I did come across a Grumman Tracker in the stash I was going to fit the Hawkeye rotodome and go down the turbo route as Alleycat has the conversion set. The Erieye just got another platform.

McColm

I think the Airfix HS/BAe Nimrod in USCG colours and decals would look great.
If it hasn't already been built a forward swept RA-5C in the role as a fighter, twin fins, 3D exhaust pipes.
Using the Revell 1/72 Atlas/Grizzly cargo aircraft as an AEW &C with a pair of B-52 engines under each wing.
Already mentioned a B-52 flying boat, engines above the wings. I could use the engines from the XB-35 flying wing..
