but of course, we can keep the production line of the Vulcan open longer  ;)
If vulcans are produced until 1970 or so, they can even see GW1
Precisely.  Altering history is what we're all about :)

French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

I like the idea!  Blimey Archie, the Vulcan already had more than enough power (especially the Olympus 301 powered aircraft), five engines is serious overkill!  Do you intend popping some kind of oversize warload that would require extra power, say like the proposed Gnat mothership version?

Nev, I've read Vulcan 607, good read isn't it?  The impression I got behind the reason the Vulcans were nearly falling apart by time of Black Buck was simply because they had been neglected.  It was felt with the impending retirement of the V-Force (which had been pushed further & further since the early 70's), it was hardly worth spending money upgrading or on any serious maintenance since they wouldn't have them much longer.  Big mistake, it almost ended in the failure of Black Buck.

The RAF has since learnt from that lesson, Buccaneer & Jaguar both recieved constant updates right up to their retirement.  If an aircraft is going to go to war (which it might do the day before it retires) it needs to be ready.  So maybe if someone in RAF had been on the ball, Vulcans could have been going as long as the Victors?
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Sorry Mossie, it was just a joke! This Vulcan will be whatif only by its marking and  camo (well, and also it's refuelling probe  ;) )

The "5th" engine exhaust is where the tailcone goes.
You have a small plastic cone, and a hole to fix it... this mean you can even make a 6th engine by using this small cone :) !!!

I heard you have another vulcan planned... you know what to do with it!!!  ;)

Interesting note about the last Vulcans... like everything on earth, if you neglect it, it become crap...

The basic structure of a Vulcan (a big delta wing) was said to be much robust than a conventional aircraft (B-52 or...Victor). That's why, off the 3 V-bombers the vulcan suffered less than the other to switch off at low level...

I know some of you already posted pics and videos of French aircraft flying 4ft above the ground (Mirage F1, Jag and the like). In africa there's small trees named "kéké" on the bush. I try to imagine a Vulcan flying so low...

My French Vulcan has Olympus-301 engines.
Someone knows how much was the increase in performances towards the -201 powered aircrafts ?
There was more than 1500 kgp of thrust between the two engines (7500 kgp Vs 9000 or so) which mean 6 tons more thrust for the late Vulcan B2s...
how many Vulcans received the Olympus-301 ?

I think seven B.2 aircraft were converted from having Olympus 201 engines to 301's, XL384 to XL390.

Thanks for the info aircav! Now I know what aircraft and what serials went to the AdA :). Were there the last vulcans to roll out off the production line ? or were they modified during their useful life ?

I added the decals and some black paint...  ^_^ it looks terrific! Mossie, you was right!!!

Planned external loads (a bomb bay fuel tank; AS-30 and ATLIS -after 1986 of course- ,AS-37 Martel, Barax pods and Magic AAM for self defense)

You got me on that one Archie!  I really thought it was another project you had on the bench.

Oh yes, I really do intend on doing that version at some stage!  Hmm, I'll have to get hold of that Flightpath B.1 conversion for it.....

The Vulcan never flew as low as four feet off the runway, but the display piolts use to do a fantastic touch & go.  The Vulcan would land with the nose wheel off the ground & then take off again in a very short space for such a large aircraft, the power of the Olympus engines would allow it to do this, along with the hugem amount of lift generated by the massive delta.  Very impressive.

These are all the videos on YouTube for the Vulcan, have a look at some & you'll see this touch & go, along with some of great moments like a high speed pass of an early Vulcan & Roly Falk rolling the graceful beast!

Model finished! It is fully loaded, ready to bomb Kadhafi...
Thanks for the link, Mossie! Some cool videos there, really!!!
:f16: (why F-16 for this smiley ??? look more like a Mirage or a F-106)

Looks great Archie.

And if you really want some thrust, put some TSR2 or Concorde Olympus engines in there ;)  When the Vulcan test-bed was flying with one, they used to shut down the other 4 and fly on the one engine!  :tornado:

Always thought that a supersonic vulcan would have been a nice "pre-concorde"... but I always told myself  "no need for a supersonic vulcan, there was already the Avro 730..."

Then I bought British secret projects, and learned that there had been supersonic studies for ALL the V-bombers, including the Vulcan.
So my pre-Concorde idea was alive, and aparently named Avro 732... then I learned that there's no pics left of this project  :(

This story of the engine carrying the tesbed (and not the contrary) remind me the CL-52 and PS-13 Iroquois...damn, those turbojets were powerfull!!!

Wasn't a B-58 used as a testbed for the J-93 of the Valkyrie ? Did this Hustler managed to fly on its test engine only ?

That's could be a cool group-buid...
build engine-testbed flying on their... test engine only (for example, a 767 powered by a single GE-90   )
