Could always strap a shuttle SRB on the underside...

Good idea! I have a 1/144 shuttle on the stash, planned to have a flyback booster...
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

Archie,
I think the XB-51 was a bit ahead of its time, technology-wise.

Adding the engines from an IL-28 might look good. I did a quick edit to your picture. The IL-28 engines (they may be smaller - I just guessed at their size) kinda make the fuselage engines look puny:

A 1/48 Il-28 would have fittingly sized engines, wouldnt it? Or 4-8 engines from 1/48 ME-262s

Is this a 1/48 Monogram B-29 or a 1/72 Airfix or Minicraft B-29? The Airfix 1/72 Beagle engines might look OK on both a 1/72 and  1/48 B-29. The twin BMW-003 engines from a 1/48 scale Ar-234C might look good, too.

It looks like the 1/72 airfix kit to me. Rivets reveal it.

No matter what you do, it is going to be an original, and that speaks volumes (to me).

I'm not just saying that because of the fantastic T-Tail you've created, either.

No sir.   (!)
Styrene in my blood and an impressive void in my cranium.

I love the organic development of this aircraft. It has an authentic feel to the design process. Lke they might have done in the forties or fifties designing the early jets.

You should give them all prototype numbers leading up to the eventual production model or even (hopefully not) the abandonment of the type.

Each stage and the eventual outcome of the project are all valid in their own right.

Cool  :)

Hmmm I think about Boeing 707 engines. The C-135FR and Sentry kit come with CFM-56, but not the 707 of course!
I'm still reflexioning...

A solution:

Tug the B-40 using 8 Me-262

As it was sticking out of the stash here's some dimensions for the Airfix 1:72 Il-28.
Engines pods are about 105mm long, 19mm wide and about 22mm deep.

If the Mixfortress is in 1:72 then they seem a bit small, but then that might just be my taste (mine are earmarked for a B-25).

A pair of 1:48 scale ones would fit the bill (if anybody does them) otherwise four 1:72 would be good (Hannants have some Il-28 at £6 each) but they might be a pain to match up to your swept wing.
How about making up some Sperrin style boxes of serious bigness and having over and under engines at about the place your inner and outer wing join is.

Just my 2p.

Hope that doesn't confuse things further  :)

This Mixfortress is 1/72 scale. Sorry to say that, but I'll probably need the swap shop for Il-28 engines pods...
