Hi Everyone!

I think that another good Viggen customer would be :

Ethiopia
Ethiopian Air Force

Ethiopia has Sudan to the west and Somalia to the east, (in fact, Ethiopia has committed troops to support what remains of Somalia's government.)

Hadn't Ethiopia been supplied with Swedish-made aircraft in the past?  I seem to recall that Ethiopia even had Swedish military advisors for a time.

Chuck,

In 1947  a Swedish general was named as Ethiopian Air Force commander and contracted for a Swedish training team, equipped with eighteen Saab trainers and two squadrons of Saab-17 light bombers (see below), to develop the air force. A Swedish officer commanded the air force until 1962.

As far as I know this was the only link between Ethiopia and Sweden as far as Air Force matters go.  Mind you a Ethiopian Viggen would be cool - what colour scheme do you think?

The Swedish count Carl Gustaf von Rosen (1909-1977, famous for the food bombings in Africa and his small coin-fleet during the Biafra wars) was the one responsible for the founding of IEAF. IEAF/EAF has used Saab B 17A, B and C's, Saab 91A, B and C Safirs, Saab T-17 and MFI-17 Supporters.

So ? Ethiopian tunan, lansen and drakens anybody ?
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

Cuban Air Force
The only fly in the ointment for a Cuban Viggen would be that, IIRC, the aircraft uses quite a bit of American equipment (the engine comes to mind), so it would have to be some sort of post-Castro Cuba.
Now there's an AH; maybe the CIA suceeded with the exploding Cigars?  :P

Hi!

In this What-If Scenario, I was just thinking that:

If a sufficiently leftist, anti-American government came to power in Sweden, couldn't they (in a spirit of socialist solidarity) perhaps then supply Viggens to the current communist government of Cuba (with or without Fidel).
As far as replacing American equipment on the Viggen, couldn't Sweden produce equivalent equipment from their own industry, or get equivalent equipment from another nation such as France or Russia?

Hi Everyone!

Another nation that might get good use from the Viggen, could be:

Venzuela
Venezuelan Air Force
Venezuelan Navy

The Venezuelan Navy could use their Viggens for maritime strike missions, clearing-out shipping (specifically those ships owned and operated by the USA) that the Venezuelan Government feels are intruding in their territorial waters.

QuoteHi Everyone!

I think that some other export customers for the Viggen could be:

(1) People's Republic of China
Possibly License-built
Chinese Air Force
Chinese Navy

(2) Mongolia
Mongolian Air Force

(3) Cuba
Cuban Air Force

(4) Eire
Irish Air Corps

(5) Kenya
Kenyan Air Force
Kenya obtains Viggens due to increasing tensions in East Africa, becoming increasingly concerned with events in Sudan and Somalia.

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to include the roundels of the nations I mentioned previously:

People's Republic of China

Mongolia

Cuba

Eire

Kenya

I take it that this Viggen was acquired for the aggressor role like the F-21/Kfir C-2.
