Whoa!!!

Somebody stop the Universe.  Clearly there's some kind of malfunction that needs a re-boot to fix the problem.  Anthony has unfinished kits???!!!???

Oh, there it is!

Anthony - two notes on HMS Hood.

1. You need to reverse the direction of the Harpoon canisters. They fire up over the deck so the exhaust is vented over the side (look at photos of any USN ship so armed).

2. The guns should be later model 4.5 singles, which are contemporary with Aegis and Harpoons. If you need a couple of those, I think I have some to spare. Send me your snail-mail address and I'll even toss in some other bits and bobs and a couple of helos.

Also, how's your airgroup for the Deutchland fixed up? I have some odd birds like F-86s and Starfighters.

Maybe he took a day off and could only finish 46 instead of the usual 49 one week?

I invite all and any criticism, except about Eric The Dog, it's not his fault he's stupid

Nono, these took on personalities of their own.  I couldn't impose my own will on them.  But they haven't yet beaten me!  They task me, but I shall have them!!!  (Anthony stares out into space, eye twitching, mumbling something about whales and how they suck...)

Joe, on the Harpoon canisters, reason I did them this way was I had the Harpoon mounts on the Iowa class ships in mind as I was arming this ship.  I know why they're mounted the other way on virtually every other ship out there, I just was trying to come up with a unique mounting for this ship that would make it stand out.

I'd envisioned the Hood and her sisters as the RN's equivalent of the USN's VLS CSGN's (I modded the design to get rid of the twin arms launchers, I figure two 64 cell VLS, with maybe a third 32 cell), though having more guns and less SSM"s.  Where the USN's CSGN's could operate independently of CVBG's, hunting Warsaw Pact surface groups so as to harass them at a distance with massive (yet slow) SSM volleys, the RN's CAGN's could escort the refit Vanguard BB's into the middle of Soviet SAG's (after they expended their missiles at USN CVBG's and those damned CSGN's) and have their way with the lightly armed (once their missiles were gone) and armored Soviet surface ships, laying waste to whatever was nearby.  In a pinch, they could strike out on their own ala the CSGN's, but not be as effective in the first strike capability.

I've actually been toying with mounting an ABL between the batteries as a dedicated TASM launcher, leaving the forward VLS for SAM's and VL Asrocs.

Thanks for the guns!  I was going for some fictitious dual mount large cannons, but they never looked quite right.  I'll PM you my address in a second.

F-86's and Starfighters?  Carrier based?  Now that's interesting.  I could turn the F-86's into FJ-3's, and do something with the Starfigthers, but I was thinking about a more modern airwing of F-4JG's, E-2G's, AV-8G's, and maybe an A-3G or something.  It's one of those old 1/800 Kitty Hawk models, with one of those big (1/542?) Forrestal islands on it.  It looks a little odd, but the flight deck mods worked pretty good (removing of the #3 catapult and aft starboard elevator).

I've got about half a dozen other ships in the works, though none have been laid down yet.  I've been toying with an aviation capable Spurance, an Alaska class BCGN from the old Harpoon II/III PC games, a through-deck aviation ship based on the old 1/600 Moskva, and I've got a Kirov, Kuznetzov, Midway, and another Tico in the stash that I have no idea how I'm going to hurt, er, modify.  I even found my old USS Long Beach that I'm going to refit into a prototype CSGN.  Today, I picked up one of those dinky SnapTight JFK kits to turn into a ski-jump CVV.

I love ships, but they're a bit more difficult to Whif into a completed project than a plane.  Whif Navy was what actually got me started here.

Now there's an idea to steal.  ;) It's just about the right size, and filling in a couple of the elevators, then replacing the details with larger scale bits would work out well.

PROGRESS!!!

Well, not much, but I dug out the MSCT (Mutant Sonic Cruiser Thingy) and the parts box I was using to store the parts (actually thought it had a full model in it, mistaking it for another box in the stash).

Here's how the MSCT appears today, after the cockpit section was attached, and with gear attached.  I went with the spots on the wings where the Cutlass' gear was attached, as well as a belly mounted set of gear similar to the MD-11.  I don't know if I'm going to add gear doors or just get the thing finished.  The belly shot shows the gear.

Also featured in the pic is the decal set (actually two of them) I'll be using to finish off the plane.

The other entries in the Phoenix GB have seen better days, specifically the masts, which have pretty much fallen off.  They're going to need some time in drydock, plus I'm thinking of converting them to waterline models.

That Sonic Cruiser is going to be killer when completed, I can't believe this one gave you a reason to hesitate, are you sure you didn't just lose it in the piles somewhere

Actually, this was one of those "Aw, man, this is gonna require lots of putty!" sorta builds.  Not to mention I lost the parts box into the stash (got shuffled away during packing).  Recently found both the model and the parts box again, and began building it up again.

And I was right, this thing has required more putty than most of my other planes put together (I've bought a total of three tubes of Tamiya putty, and this one is close to using one full tube all by itself getting the fuselage smooth).

It's moved back down to the workbench in da basement, for heavy construction and paint.  Ah, crap, I just realized I need to get some gloss white.  I hate gloss paints!

Anthony, spray it with flat white and then hit it with a couple of coats of clear gloss, It will cover better than the gloss white.

Know what, Anthony? Your Sonic Cruiser looks like a stubby version of the Convair WS-125/NX-2 Nuclear Powered Bomber proposal:

What is this "spray" you speak of?   :P

I'll complain about brush painting glossy paints, but I'll find a way to make it work.

And you really know how to take all the wind out my sails, Jeremy!  You just reminded me that nothing I've ever built was truly original.  I knew my MSCT didn't look right without podded engines under the wings, now I remember why.  Well, back to making it military!  Gotta dig out those suggestions by Evan and Lee again...

Honestly, I do this alot.  All the "original" stuff I've ever done was based on something else I'd seen and decided to "improve" here and there.  Could be why I'm a Computer Technologist and not a true Computer Scientist or Computer Engineer (I take what they come up with and find REAL uses for the stuff...  and I mean, ACTUAL Technologist, ie, degree in Computer Technologies, as compared to those Dork Squad wannabes from CompUSA who call themselves "Technologists."  I'd make more fun of them, but they don't taunt me with black and white VW bugs that say "Please ram me hard!").

Hey -- no worries either way. Still wicked cool...

But it'd look brilliant in aluminum-over-white with SAC bands...
