SHE'S DONE!!!!!!!!!!

After more than a decade of wanting, dreaming and hoping, at long last I have recreated Canadian Car & Foundry Harvard IV ZK-ZRO in 1:72.

And does it feel good! Hey! Alright now!

The base kit was Academy's fantastic T-6G, courtesy Brian da Basher. BdB also sent me the ex-Arado prop. A million thanks bro!

The canopy was from a Hasegawa A6M3 from philp, as was the oil cooler (which I beefed up with FROG sprue and filler) and the decals. The aerial, which broke off (damn my legs!), was from Airfix's TSR.2.

Believe it or not I used the T-6's cowl and, just as 20th Century Fox did in 1968, added the (inoperable) cowl flaps. These little squares were cut from the trailing edge of a Heller Super Frelon rotor blade.

She's pictured here with ZK-OSC and ZK-PXL, two other Project AFC aircraft. Next to be built is the Corsair ZK-FUI, the birdcage.

Comments? I'm contemplating another Modeling Madness review for this.

Someone, please please PLEASE make a conversion kit so you don't have to take so very long to do it! It was a ton o' fun, but I'd love to see a Tora Tora Tora conversion kit out there.

Make a facsimile of an airplane facsimile out of different airplane facsimiles?

What a great idea.  Beautifully executed too.

Bloody brilliant Zac, you've done a hell of a job there

Nicely done!

An interesting seldom done conversion. To my knowledge it is the only time I have seen anybody attempt it.

You should post on MM because it is such a unique build.

Get this Cheese to sick bay!

Thanks a million guys, as always I love getting your feedback.

Stu, I'll be writing Scott a review of this as soon as I finish this post! I am really unsure as to whether or not someone has done this (I believe Famvburg did a half-n-half version), so I feel rather privileged.

Zac words fail me. That Zero is stunning! I am totally bowled over by this build! I am astounded at how you were able to pull it off! Those last couple of pics remind me of flight deck scenes of Tora! Tora! Tora! Zeroes!. I'll be looking forward to seeing your article on a future edition of MM!

Will you do a zero in same scale so it will be possible to compare?

Jesus H. Christ!!!! do you have pictures of the assembly process?
I was not interested in prop driven planes before (although i'm starting a thread on a Gannet), but this is impressive.
Kids, i have to catch up with you sooner with my modeling skills !!!!

And, whatever happened to your superscooter 5054??

Dont worry, youve only been here for what, 1 or 2 days? Usually a project can take 1 month to complete around here

Keeping in mind that, on my homeworld of Riboflavin IV, what you Terrans call a "month" here is equal to nearly the time it takes for a full orbit of your tiny planet around Sol

:P

Love the treatment this one received, Zac.
What's next?
Styrene in my blood and an impressive void in my cranium.
