Zac's "Zero" got me thinking. One'a these days we should do a GB of comic/tv/movie-whiffs. Probably not the first time anyone's suggested it here but what the hey :P
For maximum creativity room I suggest that subjects not necissarily be limited to planes seen on screen, but airplanes that could've existed within the fiction works' respective universes. Its okay if the plane physically existed, but not if the markings or configuration were an accurate representation of anything that was actually used outside of fiction.

Eligible subjects include...

Merlin-engined messerschmitts in the luftwaffe.
Maverick's Tomcat
Mig-28s, any markings.
Firefoxes
The fuzzy bunny children of reverse-engineered tomcats left behind in The Final Countdown
TaleSpin aircraft
USN Gnats(Hot Shots)
Scaled Composite Ares in luft'46 markings

Wacha think?

Hey, cool! To that list add:

From Blue Thunder:
Blue Thunder itself, or it's progeny
the AH-6 that Roddy McDowell tried to shoot Blue Thunder down with
the LAPD Jetranger that ran into a bridge abutment

From Flight of the Intruder:
A-6
Skyraider

from Firebirds:
Apache
OH-58 Kiowa
Draken

from Red Dawn:
Yak-38 Forger in land camouflage
Hind replica built from a Puma

from Bat-21:
EB-66 Destroyer
O-2 Skymaster

from Iron Eagle:
F-16's in Israeli camo but wearing USAF roundels

from Independance Day:
RAF F-18
Kuwaiti (?) F-16

Oh, the possibilities!

I'd love to try that VTOL transport briefly seen in Contact

Also, my fleeting association with a genuine Hollywood aircraft:  In the early 90s I was briefly a 1/4 owner of the Stampe SV-4C used as a WW1 fighter in the old Tom Selleck flick High Road to China.  It was in pieces when we bought it, and still in pieces when we sold it soon after.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

From Hayao Miyazaki's Porco Rosso:

The Savoia S.21 B)  B)  B)
The Curtiss R3C-0
The Macchi M-52
Any modified Flying Boat from the pirates

From his movie "Howl's Moving Castle"  a V-1 with the wings removed, wicker chairs on top, Model T fenders, and these rapid moving mini-wing air whappers.....

Etc.

QuoteHmm - would an RAF Airwolf in Desert Pink or ADV greys count? If so, count me in.
Totally.

Oh god, back when I was new to wikipedia(and had not developed a sense of encyclopedia-worthyness) I actually wrote an article about the "Scorpion Attack Helicopter" :D

It's since been merged into this article, along with "Super Apache," another one of my genius moments.

Deletism be damned!

I was already thinking of doing one of these, even had a backstory ready:

A-15 Gnat

Given the US trend of only buying home-grown hardware, there was considerable surprise generated when the USN placed an order for navalised Gnats to equip some of their smaller carriers as light strike fighters. Based on the Adour powered F.3A, the aircraft were licence built by McDonnell.

An unusual weapons fit on the USN planes was the integration of rocket launchers with the slipper tanks.

The Gnat achieved fame following the raid on an Iraqi nuclear plant, when Lt Sean 'Topper' Harley pressed home the attack despite several of the squadrons aircraft being damaged and forced to return to the USS Essess. Full details of the operation were immortalised in the film 'Hot Shots'.

I was watching "Bad Boys 2" on cable last night, and in the scenes near the end there are a pair of USCG MH-68 Stingrays and an HH-60 Jayhawk.

Yep! I'd also count OOB builds of subjects such as... Macross Zero jets or F-14s with fictional Top Gun markings(they exist right?). If I remember right there's also an Independance Day F/A-18, but it counts only if the markings included are fictional.

Stuff I wouldnt count would be real planes with real markings(sorry rally, that probably rules out the apaches from firebirds) or whiffs that seem like an arbitrary repaint without any strong connection to the story.
