My hopes of finishing my Sea Jaguar FRS.1 came to a sudden stop tonight.  I sprayed a Future coat around lunchtime, then went out for the afternoon wih the intention of decaling tonight.

But when I got home the Future coat looked like crap and the paint beneath was bubbling up in a few spots!

So gone are any hopes of finishing this one but the weekend.  Work and Donna's work Christmas party will have me tied up until Monday now.

I've stripped the Future off with Windex, and given the whole thing a good soapy wash.  It's drying now, and will likely need to have the EDSG repainted on Monday.

It's a shame because I worked very hard to get just hte right shade mixed for the redish metallic cannon troughs, and they came out perfectly!  :(

Oh well...stay tuned for Sea Jag Round Two.

So I got that going for me...which is nice....

The Cat a.k.a Meowbag

Unfortunate :(

If it helps, I had to snap 1/4 of my vaugley F-15 based thing off and re-glue, re-fill and add re-add the plasticard because it'd superglued it at entirely the wrong angle yesterday.

Nick, that sucks ! I was looking forward to seeing that baby all done...jaguars are sooo sexy ! Especially ones in EDSG.

It also sucks when 'real' life gets in the way of modelling, eh ? I'm currently in the same boat.....spent a week getting the TSR all ready to go, then got busy at work and lost all momentum........another week off of work, got her all painted, and now I'm back to work and we're busy as heck !

I'm already working on BS excuses to get out of commitments for the weekend.......

  ;)  :o

I'm probably one of the clumsiest modellers around I spill stuff, break things glue things on backwards etc etc.

So I know what you are going through.

Look at it as a growth experience.

Never sprayed Future/Kleer, never will ! - sorry to hear of your troubles, Nick, really I am.

Our friend Dork the Kit Slayer introduced me to Kleer about twelve years back and I still have that original bottle (half full) that I bought way back then. I use a flat quarter-inch good quality sable brush (which I replace every two years) which is used only for this purpose.

Works every time.

Cant you do without that misterious JMN inspired poison called future? And what is future?

Future or Johnson's Kleer is a floor wax (no, it's a dessert topping! ack!) that has a ton of other uses. Some use it as a final clear coat to prevent decals from silvering.

You have my sympathies on the obstacles you've faced on this project, AD.

The SO-4060 is also stalled from two days now... putty, sanding, putty again, repainted...
Keep on, this Sea Jaguar is cool!!!

King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

Shasper

Gee, makes me feel better about the poo-poo (with an english accent) I had w/ Charette One's masking

Keep going Nick!

same here, after hearing a little story from the then marketing man from SAM publications a few years back.

SAM P decided on the off chance to contact Johnsons to see if they would like to run a few adverts in sam P's mags. The boys at Johnsons were quite keen  and asked what perpose their product got used for in the model world. Mr marketing man say " we tend to spray it as a varnish", to witch the Johnsons bod replys "what?!!!!!  You spray it?! dont you know its toxic in vapour form?" that was the end of the chat, Johnsons havent placed any ads in model mags in this country that i know of.
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

I actually toyed with the idea of brushing it on for this build, and I think I'll go ahead and try that when I get the paint sorted out.  After all, what's the worst that can happen?  At least it's easy to strip off.   :D

Thanks for the tips guys!
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Brushing on works well, if it's even. Go for atleast 3 coats (2 full strength + 1 cut w/water) to make sure you havent missed a spot.

I've ALWAYS brushed my Klear coat onto the model. Never wanted to clog up my airbrush with it, and now I will never airbrush Klear now.

Roger the Cabin Boy

That's strange because there's a car shop rattle can product called 'back to black' which is marketed for restoring bleached out plastic grey bumpers.  I'd swear that was just Johnsons's Klear in aerosol form.

Klear is sold elsewhere as 'Future'.  Except in South Africa, where I was asked to take a couple of bottles down to my modelling hosts.  "Ain't no Future in South Africa!" they said...

The future's so bright, I gotta wear NVGs...
