The latest (for us here in the US of A-it's the Suez Special) issue of of MAM had a little something that caught my eye.  In the forum at the back someone mentions that they would like to see a regular whif feature, and the editor asks readers to respond if they would be interested in this.  Has anyone written in asking for more whifs?  I'm going to.

This was in Vol. 5 no. 11-for the life of me I cant figure why UK magazine publishers cant just put a month/year on the cover!!
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Hi Nick

Some of us can't as Neil knows us lot already and our views on the subject ;) therefore we can't really respond due to a certain bias.

However the rest of you should respond positively if you wish to see similar articles. Neil is testing the waters as although the TSR2 series created their best ever sales figures the publishers at SAM are still very cautious on the subject thinking the subject matter still on the fringe of mainstream modelling. This is why Neil has to ask as some old gaurd JMN,s complained about too much TSR2 and not enougth 109's .

Cheers

LOL, I guess their 109 coverage has suffered.

I can see how a large circulation magazine would be cautious.  I would imagine that a "deep whif" like an Irish Air Corps A-10 would be off limits, but I would think an "almost was" like an RAF F-111 or Jordanian Tornado along with a real history of what went wrong might be well received.

I'll be sure to respond!

Here's the solution - produce a Luftwaffe Monthly. All the wonks who love ugly aircraft can get their wankfest in gear 12 times a year, and the rest of us can have a magazine without swastikas on every second page.  <_<

It's likely Neil is going to run my history of the Skyhawk in RN service for the April issue (if I get it done in time).

I have a non-whiff Boeing 757 article just about wrapped up for him, and some others in the beginning stages of preparation.

Congratulations Jennings!

If you ever do any Golden-Age, Inter-war stuff (especially with spats ) please let me know.

Personally I think that more TSR2 and Wiffing articles would be a good thing, and might inject a bit of life into the current crop of modelling mag's as they tend to be a bit boring at the moment.

For what it's worth, I'll send him an encouraging email from my work address.  *smile* That might have a bit more cachet. ;)

Cant wait to see that J!  Your RN Skyhawk stuff is some of the most inspiring whif material I've ever seen, and the cause of a growing number of Hase 1/48 A-4E/Fs in my attic.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

I think if a good a few of us send an e-mail in, they'll have to take notice!  Maybe give a few suggestions for articles too?

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Let's keep those cards and letters coming folks (I'm dating myself - let's send emails).  I think after the email I got from Neil Robinson today, that Whiff will soon be a regular part of MAM's format.  He's very interested in what I've got for him!

Cheers,
