Here's my prototype build of the Convair 49 Advanced Aerial Fire Support System (AAFSS) in 1:72. Produced by Anigrand Craftswork exclusively for Fantastic Plastic Models, this is the first kit ever produced of this truly weird-#*@((!&#$ flying whatzit.

Building the model with the cockpit angled at 90 degrees proved to be something of a challenge as there's no specific hinge mechanism provided -- nor discussed in the limited technical docs we used to develop the kit. My solution was rather simple: I bent a stiff wire at a 90-degree angle, drilled a hole in the back of the cockpit and one in rotor core and -- voila! Instant support. (The resin "piston" behind the cockpit provides further stability.)

I painted the kit overall NATO Green and gave it several coats of Testors Dullcoat for a nice matte finish.

Although the kit comes with both U.S. Army and USMC decals (courtesy of JBOT), I went with the Army scheme seen in most historical illustrations of the concept.

The kit will be released tomorrow! (April 7)

The Talon is now out from the movie Stealth.

Those of us who were kids in the late 70's will love this as another Scifi kit announced is the Starfighter from Buck Rodgers  .

Those with a passion for sci-fi can soon try pitching Star Wars fighters, against Battlestar Galactica fighters and now Buck Rodgers all in in 1/7s scale
