Well, this troublesome build it done.  Cant say it was the most fun build ever, but they cant all be, can they?  Still, it cant have been that bad because I finished it!

Anyway, more pics and a full backstory over the weekend, but for now here is a "Sea Cat" from 806 RNAS aboard HMS Illustrious (ex USS Shangri La) in May 1982.  This Sea Jaguar is armed for a SEAD strike on Argentine radar installations around Port Stanley.  It carries 2 AGM-45 Shrike ARMs, 2 AIM-9L Sidewinders, an AN/ALQ-101 ECM pod, and a single Matra rocket pod for 'targets of opportunity'.

This particular aircraft carries a single kill marking representing an Argentine Mirage shot down with an AIM-9L over Falkland Sound on May 09.

Though the terrible weather in the South Atlantic winter kept the RN's CTOL aircraft out of operations on many days, the 12 Sea Harriers aboard HMS Invincible would have been hard pressed to win the war without Illustrious' 16 Sea Jaguars and 10 Buccaneers.

So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Woah that's one hot ship there AD! I think she looks really smashing in RN colors and those over-wing missles really add to the intimidation factor!

Excellent work, AeroD! Fantabulousl! I really do love a good Jag. Fantabu- wait, said that already, um, great stuff! WOOHOO!

Just goes to show that overwing AIM pylons multiply the ratio of cool to awesomeness by 100..... B)

Here's a fantastic entry for the Falkland group build  ^_^
Very nice!
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

My only reaction to this "Mmmmm, Sea Jaguar...  (Homer drool, Homer drool)..."

I like how the radome turned out, and asymmetric warloads always look good.
I exist to pi$$ others off!!!

Wow, Aeroman....very nice work, and in hockey parlance "nice save ! "

I love the colours, and how tough she looks in that first photo. Nice choice of weaponry as well. Send in a long volley...and then sneak in and blast anything left !

In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

November 1965, Air Pictorial noted that the Royal navy was looking into buying a Pair of "improved" Essex class carriers for Phantom operations. And the USS Shangri-la is mentioned in connected documents in the public records office at kew

Id say AD had been talking to thorvic (as thats were this tit bit and many others came from) lol ;)
