I would like to find out if there is any three-view drawings of the Boeing 747 in it's guise as the competitor to the C-5 Galaxy.  We all know that the 747 offering lost the competition, but what did it look like?  Did it use the same wing?  What was the undercarriage arrangement?

I've read that it had a high wing, not as we know the 747 today.  I think this would be a nice conversion to do someday if I can find some decent drawings of it.

Cheers,  Robert

Kitnut, that's a brilliant idea! Hmmm I think I'll try to ask the question in secret projects :)
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

I've just done it... let's see the results...  ^_^

Youre going to do it in 1/72? Would be HUGE!

Yes Thomas, in 1/72 scale  ^_^  :)  B)

Just to be curious: what trademarks made a 1/72 scale 747 ? is it "special" model (in the sense of Vacuum or resin) ?
Man, that's really a monster of model!
can't remember who told me that he had 8 Italeri 's B-52s in his stash   ;)

Aircraft in miniature do a 1/72 series of airliners, including 747. I would rather know who did that 1/72 C-5 robert has

Arch, Aircraft in Miniature make a 1/72 vacuform 747, I've got one already but I'm using that one for my Shuttle Carrier project (AIM have a conversion kit to do this).  AIM have just announced that the 747 will be back in production in the New Year.  There will be a couple of models to choose from, one being the E-4B.

And it was probably me that said I had eight B-52's, two AMT 'G' versions (Hounddog and Cruise Missiles) and the other six are Monogram, Monogram/Revell or Revell.  Great Models Webstore had a sale on last year and were selling the Revell kits for US$20.00 so I bought a bunch.  I've got some Golden Dragon conversions to make the 'F' and 'H' versions.  One of the Monogram ones has the X-15 with it.  And another I'm making into the 'D' Big Belly version.  This could, and did, carry 108 500lb bombs.  Golden Dragon is putting out an XB-52 conversion sometime soon, and one of the Monogram/Revell was bought for this purpose.

IIRC the Boeing C-5 competitor was the same as the 747. Now I *do* plan on trying to do a high-wing '47 as a operational version, butvtha'ts going to be in the future (I just finished a B747 not too long ago, and I need my 'space'

It's made by Blackbird Models, formerly Delta Aviation Publications, who got the old ID Models moulds.

I would be very careful when dealing with this outfit as I didn't get my model after I had paid for it.  That was GBP 125.00 down the drain.  All I've got Thomas, is some old ID Models instruction drawings which I traded with DaveT on ARC.

I know of at least four other people who were screwed out of their money when buying the C-5 from Delta (incidently the same owner runs Blackbird, he just changed the name of his company) and all live overseas.

Shas, did you do the AIM kit?

Hell no, 1/144 for 747 is big enough! I did the RoG '47-400 Lufthansa offering as a contract job for my former CFI who's now interning at Contiental Express. Oddly enough I have another one of these kits destined for a RAAF Tanker/transport job, and I've thought about buying another one to do a C-4 with (high-wing, finished in the early MAC white/grey scheme, that appeals to me somehow   ). But after all the fits I had w/t the before mentioned project, I'm gonna lay off civvies untill I clear out my halfstart list.

Thank you very much for the details kitnut! Hell, 747's and B-52 in 1/72 scale are exciting news... before coming here, I thought these aircrafts were much too big for 1/72 scale!
Sometimes I feel that some kits you mention would be difficult to find in France... <_<

Depends on what you consider to be *Big* Arch.

I have a 1/144 B-52, and its about the same dimensions as a 1/48 F-14 w/wings swept forward. I know that the 747 is easly the exact size, if not bigger than the F-14.

If it's that big in 1/144, then 1/72 is just too big!

AAAAHHHH!!!!  RUN AWAY!  Contrary to *MUCH* misinformation and popular belief, the 747 DID NOT stem from the Boeing C-X entry!  Trust me on this.  My ex-wife's uncle is Joe Sutter, father of the 747, and he has assured that the 747 was a totally, 100% clean sheet of paper.  Boeing submitted a design for the C-X competition, but when Lockheed won the competition, Boeing started COMPETELY FROM SCRATCH designing the 747 as a passenger aircraft from day one.

Sorry, now I feel better..
