Sigh. When is the best time to run wiring? After you have all the fragile bits on, of course!  I woke up this morning, and I had no plans to light this kit...but, it just wrankled me to NOT light it...so, drilling holes and running led:

Lighting mounted...time to attach the base pole and thread the wiring through:

Heh, heh.  Wiring.  Nice timing!  Heh, heh.

It's funny 'cause it's not me (this time)!!!   :P

Model's looking fantastic (naturally).

Well, I am certainly in "another fine mess" !

Unfortunately, it seems that Ms. Ivanova's starfury was destroyed by enemy fire this afternoon, that enemy being me, who is so pissed off at bits and pieces falling off of the f'ing thing that it hit a rather large and immovable object, that being my wall, at somewhere around mach 3. I really hate this kit.  I seriously doubt it will ever be finished, even if I do find all the bits.

You have my sympathies, Greg. I've often felt a similar urge myself.

Believe I felt the same way when building mine.

So, did you have that millisecond of "OMG, What have I DONE?!" panic as the model flew through the air or after it bounced off your wall (or not at all)?

Been there.....

To be perfectly honest, no, there were no misgivings at all.  It is a crappy kit, with crappy instructions, and looks crappy no matter what you do to it.  I realized that I would have that fuzzy bunny sitting on my shelf for yarons, and every time I would look at it, I would say "crap".  So, nope. That, and when I throw something, it goes quite fast (I pitch at 80+), so there was no time anyway.

I will say this about the plastic: It is quite durable, the kit basically blew into seperate pieces, and if I wanted, it could be rebuilt...but never will be. I'm sure bits and pieces will be used in whatif projects in the future.  This is the first time in my life I've ever intentionally destroyed a kit, I think I understand TC's decision to pitch that 51 into the garbage now.

For me, it was a Revell 1:48 P-40 when I was just getting back into modelling.
Was so happy with the cockpit and fit of the fuselage.  Then, the upper wing chord-joints simply would NOT connect to the fuselage (I have since learned how to deal with this).

Instead of hucking it at the nearest wall, I clenched it in my fist, sending shards of plastic into my hand all over the place.

Plastic always has the last laugh!

But the Starfury can be built into a great-looking model, judging by some of the posts I've seen on other sites.  Maybe you could now do yours as a crash diorama?

Here's what I did with mine (sent to a friend in the States as a gift a few years ago) and it is nothing compared to what I saw of yours from your posted pics up there!

Sir John, yours blows mine away at every level...and I am still so angry at the thing that I can't see straight.  Perhaps a crash dio later on...right now, I am concentrating on getting ready for the ss build (breathe in, hold, release...repeat)

Kind of funny about the revell P-40, I had to build one overnight for use in a commercial, and had no problems...go figure:

Nah, yours looked like a REAL studio scale StarFury.  Mine looks like a diecast.

Nice P-40, btw.  Yep, it was a great little kit; I just got frustrated when the upper wings wouldn't align with the fuselage (and I already had glue all over everything).

So, I switched over to the AMT version: just as easy a build but no headaches!  I even did a hand-painted shark's mouth and eyes:

That, sir, is one sweet looking 40 !  For some odd reason, I never get sick of P-40's, though I do of most fighters...they just have some sort of oddball attraction for me!

Trust me, your starfury looks waaaay better than mine did, but I did at least get the formula down for the whiteglue putty building it, so it isn't a total loss.

Would you two like to be alone ??
