How about "Upgunning the turret to a 57mm and the sponson to a british 17Lb'er Might need to strech the legnth and width a bit to squeeze the 17Lb gun in there.OH and definatly WELD THE HULL no deadly rivets/bolts to bounce around when hit

Mine here only involved the replacement of the hull sponson gun with the long-barrelled 76mm (used by upgunned US Army Shermans)and the adoption of the British Grant turret.

M3A1 had a cast upper hull, the M3A3 had a welded hull.

Peter (aka Wolfik) has created a WHIF Sherman that has been widened as well as increased in length on the WHIF Armor Group Build Forum.  His concept is quite close to what I was originally attempting to describe in my initial thread and it looks pretty convincing.  I think Peter has done an outstanding job so far and I am looking forward to seeing what his 88mm (3.5") armed Sherman will look like when it is done.

Here is something you do not see every day (many thanks to the Track-Link forum for this information and image link).  This M4A4 Sherman has been modified and fitted with a Russian D-56TS 76mm gun from the PT-76B amphibious tank.  Is this an Indian Army modification?  Can anyone provide additional information on this vehicle?  (link to page with additional images of other vehicles)

Pakistani, according to another photo in the series.

The gun does look like one from the PT-76...... did Pakistan operate PT-76?  Or did Pakistan upgun their Shermans with guns from captured PT-76?

Hey everyone. Since Wal-Mart has stopped selling model kits, my local one has been dumping off their remaining kits for bargain prices. So the stash has been swelling with minimal outlay. I picked up 3 copies of 21st Century's 1/32 M7 Priest for $3 a pop. Diecast hull and plastic everything else. Naturally, I have no idea what to with them. I've read on Wiki of an APC version build by ANZAC troops called the Kangaroo. Maybe convert one and paint it in Iraeli colors, as we all know of their history of bodged-together APCs. What else couls be done with one?  Thanks for your input.

Jon

QuoteANZAC?
Oy, the Kangaroo was a Canadian conversion.

Jon

There was however the AC Sentinel tank series produced in Australia - be interesting if some of these were modelled in operational form:

For the Grant, I wonder if the Bofors 40mm would fit in the turret?
If the sponson could take a 90mm howitzer?

I am do plan to build an "AA Sherman" someday, with twin 37mm guns.

In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

I recently read that the Canadians installed a M10 Wolverine turret onto a Ram Mk.II hull to evaluate the firepower of the tank destroyer.

Does anyone have pictures of it?

Thanks in advance.

How the heck did he doctor that photo? Must have some mad PhotoShop skillz.
It's a crappy self-made pic of a Lockheed Unmanned Combat Armed Rotorcraft (UCAR), BTW

It appears to be the real deal, no Photoshop necessary.

QuoteWhile in the middle of this project, I received my Classic Military Vehicles magazine which had an article on vehicles in the service of Tito's Yugoslav partisans. I was amazed to see several photos of a modified M3A3 haul mounting the very PaK 40 75mm anti tank gun I had chosen for my project.

How compact is the Russian 2A70 Gun Launcher?

I'm trying to imagine it both in turreted applications (Sherman, Ram, whether it requires a new turret or not) and simply as a replacement of the main guns (Priest, Sexton, Lee, and Grant)......

Was recently quite into Allied turreted tank destroyers, and, combined with the idea of RAM cruiser tank with M10 turret experiment, I was thinking- there was a time when the US tried to bring 90mm guns into war as quickly as possible such that they tried to mount one on a M18 hull.

What if the Allies did do worse than they did against German armours such that they just had to put 90mm and 17-pounder guns on everything to hold their own?

M10s were converted into M36/M36B2 and Achilles, Shermans were converted into M36B1 and Fireflies...... and since RAM was tested with a turret from the M10, perhaps this pattern could have taken the 17-pounder as well as a heavier counterweight (to better balance the turret) and be converted into the Canadian counterpart of Achilles......

Don't forget that there were actually two Firefly variants: the VC and the M4AY "Hybrid" with a Firefly turret on an M4A2 cast hull.

Also, you are forgetting one of the odder Sherman variants where the Israelis mounted an AMX-13 oscillating turret on an M4A3 hull. Would have been even better on an Easy 8 HVSS hull, but those were all in use as M51 Ishermans.

As for SPAA, someone could do a Sherman version of the Ram-based Skink:
