Deserved Praise

Hi Gang,

In this post Xmas pre New-Year time, I have been quite busy with my next Kreigsmarine 46 profile.  It has given me some insight into this forum and site which I feel is nescessary to express.

Many who flick through these posts or pages might do so flippantly or glibly.  In actuallity, you are witnessing some great creative minds and skills hard at work.  When one of our masters of the craft pops up with a new profile, kitbash or concept, don't merely think "Oh ok.. nice".  Look at it for what it truly is...

Whether it's something with Spats, made of Cardboard , some behemoth of plastic, the creation of an actual concept into plastic or resin or a profile of 'that plane in that scheme' we are witnessing true artistry at work.  To any who might think I'm a loon, pick up a kit or fire up that paint program and attempt to replicate what these people have done.  And if they are nice enough to do something you've actually asked for, give them the deserved praise that they will most likely dismiss modestly.

To the moderators and plank owners of this site and those rising stars who seem to have skills from nowhere and to those who praise these people I give a hearty "well done" and more importantly, "THANK YOU".  This site and sites like it give the ordinary modeller who has had his fill of the latest .00001 micrometre perfect model some hope that he too can make something, whether a model or artwork that he can truly be proud of.  It also allows our imaginations to roam free and surprisingly find like minded imaginations treading the very places we do.  It also gives us inspiration for our own work to take a different tack on a kit, or perhaps model in an era we've never thought of.

In closing, I have been taken from a small farmhouse in outback Australia to the world community and found people like me, for that I am eternally grateful.

Best Wishes for the New Year to all!!

I second evryone of Mr. Mav's words

In one month from my joining whif forums I have explored things and concepts where I have never been before. I thank you all whiffers for the encouragement and the will to do something different and the pride of having that wich no other modelers in the common have........the capacity to perform the leap of imagination that allows to create in CG, Cardboard (Cardboard, YUM!!!), Resin or any other media our wildest dreams in model form. This is what modeling is all about, a means to unite people from around the world, to boost imagination and skills and to have a ton of serious fun....

Happy new year 2007

Amen, Brother Maverick! I am constantly astounded by the skill and artistry I find displayed here. You guys are always an inspiration to me. I wish all of you a joyous and prosperous New Year! May 2007 be filled with whiffs galore!

I agree completely. I haven't been able to contribute much recently but I have got loads of inspiration from this site. I also appreciate the generally (99.9999%  of the time) positive comments that are posted. Also, using cardboard!!! Never thought of that but some of you lot are true multi media. I look forward to next year's ideas.

I would have to agree Mav.

I echo all the above!  This place is nuts, but in the good way.  A lot of creativity is let loose around here, and that what makes me appreciate those posting here all the more.

Happy New Year!

Maverick's thread is a good reminder for me not to take this site and its contributors for granted.

The talented group of thoughtful and interesting people on this site have been the single most important positive influence on my own styrene madness since I plunked my first glue-smeared fingerprint on a kit back when I was a kid.

Thank you all for being here.  Hoping for a prosperous and healthy 2007 for all of you.

And I enthusiastically extend my personal invitation to any and all who may still feel too intimidated (for whatever reason) to post on this site to get in the game.

After all, who better to share your ideas and attempts with than this group of open-minded folks?

Thank you for all the ideas I've stolen over the years.  :D You lot keep me bouncing from project to project; there's always some new concept popping into my head from the terrific postings here.

Fortunately, you all also build some ideas I've come up with, which shortens my to-do list.

But such praise aside, I shall finish with an admonishment. As my most recent fortune cookie said "Don't just think, act."

That means get to building! I want to see more pictures of your models, because that's what we're all about.

In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

Mav, I couldn't have said it better. You have said what I genuinely feel about this board and it's members.

Great talents are shared here in many different areas, I love reading the back histories and alternate histories as much as I enjoy seeing a great idea come to life in styrene, paper etc. or as a profile done in photoshop or microsft paint.

I appreciate the time and effort by everyone, including the moderators and Supertom for giving us a great place to hang out and keeping it a fun place to share.

I'm like a strung out junkie when I can't get to the board!

Add my "amen, brother" to the chorus.  Some truly talented folks here.  My 3D model building has dwindled to a trickle hardly worthy of mention, and there are people here with far, far greater talent and motivation than I in that regard.  I thoroughly enjoy creating the 2D whiffs (most with a great deal of input and encouragement from y'all).

The one thing I just can't figure out is, why does nobody on this board snipe, bicker, call names, throw sand, or otherwise act like the people on just about every other board (model related or not) that I've ever visited?  Is something *wrong* with you people?  Sheesh... you need to lose some of the maturity and comportment.  Start some mud-slinging and catfights! :)

Seriously, I, for one, truly appreciate the fact that we share a common interest (dare I say, love?) in all things Whiffical, and the fact that one can come here and express one's twisted ideas and opinions without fear of being shot down like a dove on the first day of hunting season.  That is something truly, truly refreshing.

Everybody have a happy, safe, sober (if you're driving), prosperous, and peaceful new year.  Here's hoping 2007 will see Whiffery go mainstream.

Cheers,

J

Well, we have our moments :(  With you on the receiving end in the dim and distant past due to a rather embaressing case of mistaken identity coupled with mob mentality.

When the line is crossed, the membership goes through a period of introspection and navel gazing which usually leads to a renewed effort towards peace and harmony.

oh yes, absolutely!

love this place and all who sail in her - as for being aware of the work involved, the mastery of plastic and mouse, and the all round wonder that is our little corner of the web, i am fully aware of it...it's the first place that i go online, and the last one too.
