Come on Barry, just build a new one!

Seriously, you could do a square taper filled with something like Tamiya two-part putty and then file it to a round taper shape.

;)

SimonR

QuoteUnfortunately, there is no way to insert a simple plug to extend a tapered shape (unless you're willing to suddenly have an inappropriate "flat/parallel" part) and I do not know how to otherwise extend a tapered shape unless one completely rebuilds an entirely new fuselage.

Ideas???  Tips???
Wolfik did it here on his TA-7C...

I'm not sure that his technique is accessible to mortals though!  :) If you want to give it a go and can't find Forex, I'll drive over the border to Germany, buy some and mail it to you.

The Tucara looks like it's going to be a brilliant project. The idea of turning Mossie engine nacelles upside down to make turboprops is pure genius!

Extend where the exhaust is, and place tail fin further aft! Not much, but eliminates some of the problem ;)  And you can allways do a stabilizor fin that extends further aft, like some learjets

Thanks, SimonR.  Wolfik's subject, however, was a much more gradual taper so the plug system works alright for that.

B777: That is what I described for the tail but I think I actually need to extend the entire fuselage even more.

I'm considering chopping off the fuselage just aft of the rear wing chord, "opening" the two fuselage halves and filling the lengthwise tapered gap with sheet styrene.  This way, I would reduce the degree of taper for the entire aft fuselage, if only from the top view.  I could then put a longer tail extension this way.

Got lucky!  With a little help from a caliper, I figured I could go pick out a tail from another subject/kit somewhere in the stash.  Went shopping, Eddie-style.

An A-10 Warthog has donated its tail.  Little nerve-wracking to cut up both kits where I hoped a suitable join might work out.  Initial result is not too rough.  Something I can morph together.

I will still extend the Warthog tail even farther----have to remember that the final wings will be quite a bit larger than what you see here so the fuselage is going to end up not looking so big by comparison in the end.

This is *really* going to need some serious nose-weight!

Nice bonus is that the same A-10 will also donate its wheel wells to the cause.  With some styrene surgery, I think I can make them work with the inverted engine nacelles.

Getting closer...

Barry, this one looks to be off to a great start!

Now we're talking - off at a real pace with this one Barry!  As i said to Eddie the other day, it's the abandon with which you both hack into the plastic that really astonishes me and fills me with admiration for your inventiveness.

Stunning stuff!

Wow, I think I'll love this one!
And well, this could be your entry for the Falkland group build...

French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

Wow Mr Howling Mouse that's some serious styrene surgery you've got going on there! I applaud your courage at such an undertaking. I think this one's gonna be a stunner on a par with your recent Sparrow trainer.

I WILL be speaking to you later......

you know, with the control surfaces directly behind the engine wash, this thing would turn on a friggin dime !  Excellent call, Sir JHM.

Just a (second) thought, MR MOUSE - Wouldn't it have been easier to start with a RODEN MOHAWK and worked back. After all that's pretty much what it will resemble......

......I'l get me coat

(NOTE to those who think I'm being a wee bit harsh on our good friend - Mr Mouse and I know each other very well. He'll take the comment the way it is meant  ;) )

Well, if you know him in that sort of fashion, can't you at least send us a side view of Mrs. Hitler holding that box?

Got stuck watching some horribly dull Hillary Duff movie with the kid last night so I was (naturally) "flying" the mock-up around the room and I kept thinking, "Hey, doesn't this look like some kit from Roden awhile back?"

Blah!

I'm still going to do it.

As for the side-view of the box, we were going to upload that but with ME holding the box instead!
