Egypt and Sudan retain claims to administer the two areas that extend north and south of the 1899 Treaty boundary along the 22nd Parallel. This dispute see Egypt occupying a small salient east of Wadi Halfa and Sudan "administrating" a larger triangle of territory alongside the Red Sea.

With the start of UN hostilities against Communist revolutionary Egypt in February 1965, one of the first actions taken by Sudanese forces was to drive the Egyptians out of their zone of occupation south of the border.

The first Sudanese air strikes were carried out on the 1st February by the Embraer EMB.326GS Xavante equipped 4 Sqd, deployed to Wadi Halfa. Little is known about the operation of these aircraft or their combat crews, although it seems likely that most were qualified instructors as 4 Sqd was normally based at Khartoum and was essentially a training outfit, with a secondary light attack role. Many of these instructors are known to have been Iranian and Pakistani. As Iran was officially a neutral nation, it would appear that the unit's Pakistani and Sudanese aircrew took part in the conflict.

Of the 14 EMB.326GS known to have been delivered to Sudan in 1964, 3 were reportedly lost in combat in early 1965, with at least two more destroyed at Wadi Halfa during an attack by Socialist Union Brewers.

This aircraft was photographed by a Time journalist at Wadi Halfa on the 2nd February, 1965.
Whatever.

Brilliance! Very few trainers match the Macchis in their infinite coolness! Nicely done and an intriguing backstory to boot!

King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Could we possibly be provided with some "how-to/in-progress" shots we can learn from?  I, for one, would love to someday be able to pull off such a clean camo job!

Styrene in my blood and an impressive void in my cranium.

Swedish Mick

Nice story and a great camo!

I'll have to get my own digicam for that, but I'm working on it.

This one has always been a fave. It's simple and oh so neat and when you take a look at the Sudanese terrain from above, the colours are kinda right.

Thanks again for the kind words.
