QuoteThe Revell 1/72 Me 262 a1 kit contains a pair of stubby rocket tubes which are meant to be mounted under the nose. The text in the instructions mentions some sort of R4M rockets, but when I searched for that text, all I could find were references to the rockets pictured above. What then, are the rockets in the kit?

I think you will find that they are the Wurfgranate 21 rockets I mentioned above - some Me-262s did carry them.

QuoteI've got a couple of magazines with drawings of it, one shows it attached to the nose of a Me262 so I guess this is the one in your kit.

Simon,

Would you post those pics please.

Can't post them I'm afraid Greg, they're copyrighted, I don't want to get the forum in trouble!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

QuoteGreg, how about something on the lines of the Saab B-17 (Sweedish one, not Boeings bomber!)? It had fairings attached to the undercarriage

Yes, I was thinking of something like either that or the Skyraider's style.  Maybe call it a BV 204B.

Hey All,

I've got a couple of the Revell 262s and a couple of Fw-190s, all quite nice wee birds.  I second Greg's thoughts on the 262 rockets, WGr21 was a pretty popular bomber-buster late in the war, so the kit's armament would most likely go along those lines.

Greg, as a thought on the Bv P.204... (or would it be just Bv-204, if operational? One that some ppl never seem to think about)  From what I can see, the primary reason for the undercart was the Hagelkorn it was carrying, assuming this isn't part of the CAS loadout (& I can't see it being so) you could have the undercarriage shorten the gear quite a lot, it's prop is a possible prob, but it could be shorted and paddle bladed perhaps to give the required grunt, (hell it's got a turbjet too) so plenty of room for shortened gear & lotsa 'hangy' things.

Mav,

Yeah, I would probably call it the Bv-204B.  The 'A' model being the version with the standard undercarriage as shown in the pics.  as implied earlier, I'm picturing this as kind of a Luftwaffe Spad.  Might even consider replacinf the BMW 801 with something more powerful (or I might not too.)
