well, it all started off like this in Dec 2005...

now, after initial fuselage assembly at the time, it's finally been dug out & banged together... the main mod being a MAD boom in the tail

King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

What would the designation for this monster be? I'm assuming USN

SY?

PB5Y? :ar:

Might I suggest "PB6Y?" ("Y" was Convair's designation code for the USN). Name -- got me there.

Very cool. Gotta get back to work on my Marinefleiger He-177 antisub patroller...

Was there a areal PB5Y? I forget which one the privateer was.

If so, mabye PB7Y might be better because as we all know, the PB6Y was the naval version of the B-32 Dominator

US Navy Aircraft Designations 1911-1962

the R3Y Tradewind was originally the PB5Y-1 before it turned into a transport/tanker, so it'd probably be PB6Y-1...

Goober, I'd forgotten all about the naval version of the B-32, well remembered!  ;)

a bit more progress, seen here in primer before the paint was sprayed

since this pic, a first coat of Halfords Ford Isis Blue has been added and it looks rather good...  ;)
