Lately the lovely wife has been compaining a bit about the attic stash getting a bit untidy.  I cant really blame her since the stash outgrew the plastic shelf setup a while back and there was a decent pile of models accumulating on the floor.

So today while trying to get inspiration for the first build of 2007 I decided to bring the whole stash down, inventory it, then after adding another Wal*Mart plastic utility shelf, rearrange it to look tidy again.

It was kind of satisfying to see that I now have most of the kits I currently want.  I'm eagerly awaiting Trumpeter's new stuff this year, but otherwise the only kits I really want to get this year are the Airfix 1/48 Lighnting and Jaguar.

I came up with 127 kits, plus a handful of accessory sets.  At my current pace of 12 kits/year I'm pretty much set for a decade if civilization collapses (assuming paint, putty, glue, etc will all still be avialable after the apocalypse!).

Here's the inventory:

Can get a bit scary when u inventory a stash. U start to c just how much u have spent. it becomes even more dangerous if the missus cottons on LOL
Just as well im single then  ;)
I keep mine listed on excel. Thorvic has a copy for bed time reading lol

I wont even start to list whats in my stash on here. It would eat up a years worth of band width. Surfice to say it stands at 1192 kits as of today. (all 72nd scale, and not counting conversion sets, targets, sci fi  or other scales)

I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

Even though most of my stash has been picked either on sale or dirt cheap on ebay, I did shudder a bit when I though of how much I had tied up in styrene.  Cant imagine how I would have shuddered if I had over 1,000 kits up there!
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

After hearing about the guy who kicked the bucket & left his family to wade thrue about 10,000 kits or so (many of which were F-4 Phantoms), I've come to grips w/my styrene habit. Now I only splurge when I go on Vacation (the Pensacola run is VERY profitable  ;) ), or when I make the occasional IPMS show. Everyonce in awhile I'll get something off of EB, the Web or from the local shop at home, but it seems I'm in more of the condensing & relocation business rather than in the market for aquisitions.

I spent about three hourse moving stuff around in my storage unit this afternoon, it was like a giant three-dimensional chiclet puzzle trying to get to some of the storage boxes that I was looking for.  I found things today that I forgot I had purchased and some other things that I am glad that I purchased when I did and promptly forgot about them.  Inventory control can be a B1tch if you do not stay on top of it.  I had a complete and working inventory for my stuff almost 20 years ago and since then it has gone out of control.  Working from memory can be fun sometimes but when you encounter stuff you forgot you had, it is almost like Christmas all over again.  Got that experience today as I was trying to find my tool box with all of my modeling related tools so I could pull out a few items for a friend of mine that was in need of assistance.

1152 kits and counting... I've been buying them fairly steadily for 29 years so that's only about 3 a month!

A lot of the stuff on my list comes from people here.  Over the last couple of years, I have bought or traded for stuff from Gary, Captain Canada, John Howling Mouse, Shasper, Aeroplane Driver, anthonyp, Ian the Hunter-Gatherer, cthulhu77, Patrick H, MMM, and now, aerofan.  There are probably a couple of folks I've left out.  The stuff that didn't come from the forum came from a variety of sources: Hobbytown USA, Hobby Lobby, Hungate's, the Hobby Stop, WalMart, Target, Big Lots, etc.
