Hi all,

Yes, yet another jet! As Lana says, "jets suck!" (quite true), but it's not gonna stop me from making it!

Here's the cockpit all done. Not too bad detail-wise I guess, but I hate cockpits anyways!

After looking through a nearby cupboard, Lana managed to scrounge up a noseweight for me! Yay!

And here she is....for now. I'm planning (most likely) standard late Kahu Green-Green-Grey with yellow "training" bands. Just an excuse for me to do more masking! :P  B)  I Love Tamiya Tape!

You'll most likely see an update tomorrow as I'm hoping to do the last five coats of yellow, and then the camo, and then in true Zac style she'll be done! Woo-hoo!

Cheers,

Zac

Cant wait to see it done! Hawks are cute

OK so instead of guns and missiles it sneaks up on the target, the screw pops out and it drills a hole in it  :D

Cockpit looks a nice oiece of work Zac - and I to normally think modern jets suck, but I find the Hawk quite nice to look at

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Looking good, Zac! That's some fine work on that 'pit! My hat is off to you. Now all she needs are some spats!

I'll be anxiously awaiting your next update.

Great start Zac!

I've got a 1/72  Italeri Hawk in my stash that I keep wanting to bump closer to the front of the line but it hasn't told me what kind of paint it wants to wear yet. Seeing yours in progress is really making me want to go start it right now!

Hi all,

Thanks a million guys! I really do despise modern jets yet have a space in my cholesterol-clogged heart for the cute lil Hawk series (more the originals than the new ones).

Dave - Lana simply says :P!

Today I simply did another two coats of Yellow on the rear fuse and wings, bringing the total to (I think) 7. God I hate Yellow!

I'm yet to add the gasbags (I love the look of underwing fueltanks! They just look so good!) and the pitot tube. I'm looking forward to having this, my first Hawk* done. Of course it'll be Kiwi, and in my current RNZAF timeline they were purchased to train pilots for the F-16K fleet.

Now I think there's enough Yellow on there, so the next step is to  MASK it off and apply the Late Kahu® three-tone Green Grey Green camo and some nice, slightly oversized Kiwis.

Go RNZAF!

Cheers,

Zac

*Well, my Dad bought an Airfix Red Arrows Hawk in 1998, and he almost had it finished when he decided to do the paint. After two coats rattlecan gloss red, Dad set it aside to dry. We thought it could do with some speed, so Dad put it in front of a fan heater. We came out to the garage about three hours later and oops, one wing was all warped, and the nose had a Concordey look to it. The coat was perfect, though!  :(  :(  :(

I dont share your distaste for modern jets, but I agree with you on several points Zac;

1.  Hawks are beautiful aircraft.

2.  Italeri Hawks are great kits.

3.  Yellow paint sucks!  Always!

Loving the look fo your Hawk so far.  I imagine it will look stunning in the Kahu scheme with the yellow bands
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Hi all,

Well I've had some people today DEMAND PICS, so here they are, illustrating the current state of affairs vis a vis my Hawk 100 project.

I LOVE MASKING! With Lana's urging, I've made the Hawk my first attempt at canopy masking. As you can see, the cockpit is now masked and so are the wing and fuselage "training" bands. This was her last night. Later I decided to make a start on the camo so, when we went to bed around 10:30, she had one coat of JA Green.

Come the morning, I did another coat of JA, went to meet with the head of my former rival radio network, then returned to do a final coat of JA Green. And touchups. Then two coats each of Flat Green and Dark Grey, and final touchups.

Then I felt brave and decided to demask. I was prepared for horrors beyond the bounds of human imagination, but lo and behold - a half-decent job! There were some leaks with the fuselage and wing bands which I then touched up (AAAAAAAAAAAAARGH I HATE YELLOW!!!!!AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!! FECKING YELLOW BLENDED WITH GREEN FECK FECK FECK!) and set aside to dry. The canopy was demasked and, thank goodness, looked amazing! Only a coupla bits of green to scrape off with my nail.

And there she is as she is now. All I'm waiting for now is the yellow to dry (argh feck bleedin hell) and then on go the decals!

Cheers,

Zac

Shasper

So I take it the yellow is to keep the newbies from running into each other during terrain following ops, or to give the enemy a better target?

Looks good mate!

Yowsa, that's sharp as a tack, Zac! Your paint work is really impressive! Once again you managed some amazing tonal qualities in your camoflage.

I am envious.

Yet another winner in the making!
