Robert, those are some pretty big birds you've aquired, where the heck do you keep them?  I keep seeing some larger models I want but have no where to display.

Hi Jeff,

Yes, finding where to put them will be a challenge, they're not built yet although I have a large basement which is about 20 feet by 40 feet where I keep the models at the moment.  I have aquired an old museum display cabinet which is quite large, I think it was use to display clothes on a maniquin one time.  Once I get some shelves added it will hold all the models I've got built so far, 200+ including a E-3D, B-52, B-36 and a couple of flying wings (in 1/72 scale)

I got some 1/72 scale drawings of the C-5 from Dave T a few weeks ago and the drawing of the top view of the kit takes up one complete sheet of paper which is 3 feet by 4 feet, so I've a good idea how big a cabinet I will have to make for it and the 747.

As to where to put them, well we have just sold our house in Calgary here, and we're moving into the countryside.  The plan is to buy some property which has an additional quonset on the property and convert it into my 'toybox' where I can keep all my models and bikes, motorhome etc. and a space to set up my office for work.  My idea is to make a dividing wall between my office and model room as the display cabinet.

Ginge!

I've paid $300 for a 1/16 Leopard 2, but that is a BIG model, and what I think is a good value given the size & complexity.

If somone came out with a 1/35 ADATS, I'd pay $150 Cdn. Any more, and I'd build it myself.

yeah, $100-$150 is about the most (thinking 1/72 Convair 580 / Cosmo, DHC Buffalo)

I've found as far as kits go if you wait long enough you'll find one at the right price, thats how I ended up with 5 1/35 Scud launchers and a 1/48 DC-130 plus a 1/72 Space shuttle with boosters. ;)  :)

Having been modelling now for quite some time I've learnt that most kits will eventually be re released even if its under a different brand. So I don't pay to high a price anymore... A couple of years ago however I paid $45 for teh 1/72 scale Airfix Canberra (the RAAF version can't think of te MK at the moment.) A few after that I heard from my hobby shop that Academy were thinking of putting out a series of Canberras! DOH!

The High Planes Canberras are really quite good and well within that price range.

Due to a limited (and FIXED) income my modeling budget runs about $35.-$45. a month so I usually try to find kits on the Bargain end of things <_<  :(

I would trade my sister for a TSR.2.  If I had a sister.  You could have my brother, but I'm not sure he's worth it.

Beat me to the draw Steve  :P

Most I've paid would be for the Anigrand B-46 and Seamasters I suppose.

Easiest way for good, cheap, new tool injection mouldings to come on the market is to get me to buy the expensive resin one

If you want it enough, you will find a way of aquiring it. If you don't want it enough you will walk away - like me from the Trumpeter HMS Hood - I didn't want it quite that much.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Theres a strong chance that the TSR2 may reappear in the next few months with the relaunch of Airfix as Hornby are tied to the restictions self impossed by Humbrol and the that the kit is ready to run as the mould s stayed with the producer in China (The Airfix restocks that some may have noted in europe recently have come from stock that Heller had embargoed and stuff they continued to produce untill the mould were sent back to Airfix at margate )

Therefore i wouldn't trade in any family members just yet as you will probably be able to get hold of one for the RRP in the near future. :D

Most I've paid was for a (heavily discounted) Tamiya 1:32 F-4J, I saved so much, that I was able to buy Cutting Edge 'winders, Verlinden seats and CAM decals and STILL spent less than a certain British east coast mail-order specialist have the kit listed for.

I love bargains, but unfortunately Mr Trumpy is now advertising a family of 1:32 P-47's and this aircraft in this scale has been top of my wish-list for a coupla years. So I guess I'll shell-out the £40.00 or so that it will cost when they finally arrive.... Better clear some shelf space, eh ???
