The Marine Captain crept quietly through the bush. The forest was silent. His breathing resounded like thunder in his ears. –"Quiet, as a snake farting" he remembered his drill sergeant say. Forward lay the railways leading to the rail junction, his target for tonight. Creeping slowly, he checked on his platoon by clicking on his radio. All accounted for. –"We're closer. A couple dozen meters more and-".

The night flared to life as a explosion rocked him out of balance and through ringing ears, heard a chain of explosions farther to the left, where his flanking group should be. –"Wyrmshadow, Atlanta, we're engaged!!, be advised, Choppers attacking us!!" what more could he say, unless there were raining rockets....

Above, Kilometers away a Flight of OA/11 Pounders listenining to the call for support advandec their throttles and started their hunting dance.

Wyrmshadow 2 was the first to acquire. –"KA-50, 12 o'clock, fox two!!" and let go with one AGM-214 stormbringer anti-tank/antiair missile. Immediately he broke and a flash of ligth crossed where his airplane should have been. Without taking his sight from the picture, and the all-round-the canopy HUD he maneuvered to rejoin with his lead. Up ahead, a explosion and secondaries ignited the night sky. –"Splash one KA-50!!" he radioed.

Then, in the distance, another element of Wyrmshadow flight claimed "Two hinds down!!". –"Atlanta, keep your heads down, a flight of raptors is coming in, weapons hot to take care of the opposition at the Junction. We're next to mop up, after that, the target and everything that moves in the Area is yours!!!.

THE WESTERN DESIGNS O/A-11 POUNDER

The O/A-11 Pounder resulted from the requirement to have a multi-purpose, Battlefield Support, Recon, Attack, and Anti-Helicopter Platform. Western Designs Bidded its proposal, an up-scaled and modified version of the Famed Burt Rutan's and Bob Pond's Pond-Racer.

The Pounder has an interesting layout with supercritical, froward swept wings at the front end and the fuselage hanging between two booms that support the whole airframe, and with one turboprop engine with counter-rotating props on each boom, in the aft section.

The Pounder has a high acceleration and speed, and can maneuver with helicopters in close combat. Is equipped with AGM-214 stormbringer anti-tank/antiair missiles and a 25 mm. Cannon in the port boom, under the E/O equipment window. The starboard boom houses an AESA Radar.

This is my first build of the year. I wanted to build another entirely different thing and this little, fast racing plane crossed in front of my eyes. Left whatever I was modeling and started it. Five days Planning, researching and drawing. Three days building. (Ooooh! I hate PSRRRR!!!)

Overall length: 20 centimeters – 7.87 Inches
Wingspan: 17 Centimeters – 6.69 Inches
Materials: Plastic card, Balsa wood, Drinking straws in two diameters, Resin casts on plaster mould, metal paper clips

I hope you all like it as much as I liked building it.

Saludos,

Rafa

Wow! J'en suis sur le cul ( I'm eeeerh astonished ;) ). Incredible forms (look very Star War for me)
I like the tone of your backstories!!
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

Rafael

Thank you, Archi. I always have your comments in high esteem. Later, I'll post pics of the scratchbuilding process, and show you the more or less complex form-building we talked about days befor. I'm glad you liked it!!!

Holy cow, Rafa, simply amazing! That's one incredible design you carried off with superb execution! The backstory was a delight as well. Rafa you are a MACGUYVER SCRATCHBUILDING GOD!!!

Contra-rotating PUSHER-Props!  Why have I never thought of that?
This is really something, Rafa-----and FAST!  Are you retired?  Or just that quick?

Yes, I would love to learn how you shaped this one up.  Some (yum!) cardboard in there?

Outstanding concept.  Love the asymmetrical load-out.

One question:  how do you imagine the undercarriage would be positioned?

Styrene in my blood and an impressive void in my cranium.

Spey_Phantom

this is indeed a verry interesting and verry futuristic design

i like it, a lot

Brian, Cthulhu, Baz and Nils: this is a "copied" design. I couldn't restrain myself from building it. It's so...Rutan!!! and a marvelous little bird. Of course, I dreamed this machine in 1/72, my preferred scale, and was too little, but this one, almost the lenght of a warthog fulfills my 1/72 scale needs because, in my universe, it is an up-scaled version of the Pond Racer.

Cthulhu, a new word: In northern South America we call te Pampas Llanos (pronounced Yanos). Pampas are the same thing, but for Argentineans, Chileans and Uruguayans.

No. I'm not retired. I'm only a fanatical builder who forgets to check the clock at night.

My choice for Landing gear is the same as in the Pond Racer. Two mains at the front, in the booms and one (enlarged strut) wheel aft, under the rudder. Very uncharacteristic of today's warbirds.

Somehow, I forgot to integrate Cardboard (Cardboard, Yum!!!) in the bird, but I printed most of it in bond paper, glued the outlines in palsticard and scissored it all. Yoy'll see when I post the in-progress...

Thanks, Overkiller. It is a Turborop, please notice the engine exhausts located ahead of the propellers

Mmmm... Combat Pond Racer - nicely done Rafael!  Love the pusher props too.

If only there was a kit of the real thing available.
