Due to delays with the locally developed Orange Harvest Martel armed SEAD Phantom, as a stop gap Canada equipped 49 of its ECF-4Ms with the American Standard ARM and GBU.8.

"Grim Reaper", 429 Sqd, Canadian Armed Forces, Zinder, Niger,  17 March 1968
Crew: Lt. louis LeVier (pilot), Cdr David Hooker (WSO)

The CF-4, built in Canada and using Canadian Rolls Royce engines, was symbolic of the changes in the Canadian armed services at the time. With the merging of the armed services into the new Canadian Armed Forces in 1967, the Phantom represented an aircraft that in its CF-4L (carrier capable) and CF-4M (land based) forms could be shared by the Maritime and Air Commands. The "two blues" colour scheme of these aircraft, which was retained until the late-70s, was reflective of this joint approach, as was this crew pairing.

Whatever.

King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

GOOD

I was wondering why Canada did not buy a REAL fighter-bomber in 70s? They had to buy Phantom, ... but you comrade harps has fixed the error.  ;)
Will die without understanding this world.

WOW! Very nice buildup, markings and camo scheme!  I approve!  What kit was this made from btw?
Man, we should have cloned twenties. Jackson wouldn't have given a poo-poo.

QuoteToo bad you didn't opt for the F-4E/F airframe instead so you could at least enjoy the option of a gun.

I've got F-4Es already, and I waited a long time to get the Fujimi 1/72nd F-4M (eventually finding 1 at last year's ModelExpo in Melbourne). Also, it's a SEAD bird, so the undernose is actually taken from a gun-less F-4G, for all that passive homing gear. It needed to be shorted, but fitted suprisingly well.

I like the idea of the GBU.8 ARM, with the Standard's seeker head. An ARM with a 2,000lb warhead would do some damage to a SAM site.

As for the underside, there's an ALQ-101 (short) ECM pod, 2 AIM-7s and a standard F-4 ventral drop tank. As I'm still yet to get my own digicam, any more photos of this one will have to wait.

Thanks again for the support.

Whatever.
