The more the merrier, Daryl! We're looking at a Feb. 14th kickoff.

Ysi those were somer very sharp P-40s you built! I particularly like your take on Russian winter camo. It really looks like whitewash applied by hand by hurried groundcrews. Great work!

I'm in.  Maybe a jet-powered P-40 or something.

Go for the trifecta...add a T-tail, spats, and maple leaf roundels!

I love spats!

I'll be taking a leave of absence. Hope to return in time to finish this GB.

Here's to hoping you're able to re-join us in time for this GB Mr Miller! You will be missed while you're away.

BlackOps

Brian, just found this thread, I've got a P-40 in the stash I could do something with, I had originally intended on making it Jet powered but I'll have to think about that.  I can offer up a prize for the contest if you need one (I'll have to rummage through the stash :)

Wow Black Ops that's great! I'd love to see what you come up with! The main requirement is that the basis of your project is a P-40. Feel free to whiff it any way you like!

I'm grateful to you for your generosity in offering up one of the prizes. It looks like we'll have enough entrants to have a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, so this will be very handy. Thank you!

There *may* be a Hobbycraft P-40B in Ye Olde Stash that would never get built save for whiffery.  Provided I can eMail someone photos, I may have time to build unless that blasted thing known as Real Life gets in the way.

What is the endpoint date?

Th "I Love P-40s GB" will run Feb. 14th - Augh. 14th. I hope that's enough time for you to submit an entry Daryl! I'd love to see what you can do with a P-40!

Here's the preliminary concept and is not all that original but fun enough to build:

Hobbycraft P-40B/C modified into a Rich Man's Personal Aerial Transport.

Degunned and associated farings removed

Cockpit relocated aft somewhat

Spats from the Hawk 75 M/N/H or whatever that designation was...the H/C kit is based off the Hawk 75/P-36 to begin with so that should be relatively straightforward.

Overall Floquil Old Silver with a little red embellishment hither and thither.

Overall, the goal is to have an open-cockpit ''smoothie".

Aug. should work adequately.

No exclusive is claimed on the design so if anyone wants to copy/add to/modify..please feel free......

Baring that,  it will be a Royal Navy Tomahawk II with folding wings in Extra Dark Sea Gray/ Br. Slate Gray/Sky with barred roundels a-la Corsair II.

I can't seem to find a 1/32 P-40B from 21st Century Toys to convert into a blimp........ :D  :D  :D

Well now I like the idea of turning any ww2 plane into a biplane--it always makes me feel I'm doing something very naughty.

What about removing the engine from the nose of a P-40, putting cannons in the nose instead and then giving it a wing with four engines? But you'd have to lengthen the fuselage somewhat.

That's one plane I dream of doing once I find the kits--a four engine Heinkel Uhu.

Allan,

Interesting idea - would it be a dedicated bomber version, perhaps with the tail turret of the He-219C (does anyone know if there is a kit/conversion with this sort of tail turret?)?

Regards,

Greg
All hail the God of Frustration!!!

Allan

Hi Greg,

I don't have the modelling skills to make a turret to put at the rear of the 4 engine UHU, though it would look fantastic that way. You could of course steal one from an He 177.

The transparencies would be the hardest thing to do unless you made it really simple. A plain bubble canopy about halfway along the fus controlling one or two cannon right at the end may be the way to go.

My project would just have the 4 engines and the lengthened fus. I'd call it a recon model, although it would look good with a couple of torpedoes/large missles attached to the wing/fus.

Wow those are some great ideas, gents! I gotta agree with Allan, I too love morphing W.W. II monoplanes into biplanes!

It's a good thing the winners will be chosen by vote as anything including spats would count as "extra points" in my book.

I love spats!

P.S. And a Big P-40 Thank You!!! goes out to Mr Howling Mouse for being wonderfully generous in offering up a prize!
