While doing nothing more to the F-4J, I saw Narses excellent photographic review of the Milton Keynes Show, which included Richard :dum: 's excellent Vampire Bat.
That reminded me that I had a Hobbycraft Vampire NF.10 already cut out and prepared.
Started it a few minutes ago.
The cockpit is done......no extra detail as you'll see nowt anyway.
It shouldn't take long to sling together.
Tomorrow is clean up time.
It'll have its booms shortened and outward splayed tail surfaces added....not my idea at all, someone else did it on this site before and it looked cool.
It'll be an RAF Nightfighter.
The Spider Crab was the original name for the Vampire.
The Hobbycraft has a mere passing resemblance to a Vampire anyway, but is ideal for whiffing

Ahem...

USAAF P-77A Vampire Bat

Flattered that I have inspired you Rad!!

I love DH Vampires and cant wait to see your interpretation.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Thanks for the reminder, brilliant. I'd remembered the concept but not how great the model looked.
Mine'll be on its u/c and although it was to be a straight forward NF, I shall probably add under-intake rockets to make it a Night Interdicter.
"Might" still be RAF, although there are numerous other possibilities, not least the Finnish AF, French AF, Swiss AF and the Venuzuelans

By the way, are Venuzuelans oringinally from Venuz.....ie VENUS????
Makes you think, eh

Buggar.
Couldn't wait....just built the damned thing. The booms are now shorter and the horizontal tailplane has been cut in half, so that each half is now mounted outwardly splayed on a boom.
U/c and some airframe detail tomorrow, then a spray in grey primer.
It'll be RAF....possibly SEAC???

Sounds like another interesting build but for some odd reason I have Bananarama going through my head!  Mmmmm, tight leather outfit...Goddess on the mountain top indeed

Well the u/c is on and all the "kit" bits have been added.
The nose leg and wheel are really strange though.
Perhaps for my next Hobbycraft "Vampire" or Spider Crab as they'll all be, I'll use either a leg from the spares box or have it flying.

I'll add some extra detail later.
After paint and decals, the under fuselage rockets will be added.
These go under the air intakes on the real ones....a couple of HVARs on each side I reckon. ;)

Ready to spray.

The Hobbycraft Vampire is NOTHING like a Vampire, but when it's got splayed outwards fins, is a VERY accurate Spider Crab.

If I see any more, I'll get 'em.
No filler needed anywhere and lots of fun

After its "work in progress appearance" at the Huddersfield Show a few days ago, it's now been sprayed black.
The u/c will be drybrushed in silver shades, while the cockpit interior will be essentially black, a light drybrushing of dark grey, some seat cushions in khaki and seat belts in tan/buff. The caopy framing is thick anyway so buggar all can be seen.
Colour scheme will be Sand and Medium Blue disruptive...faded upper surfaces..yes, more silver pencil, staining, etc., for an Israeli aircraft.
