Whilst building this 1/72 Dragon T-34, I was struck by how much the turretless body reminded me of a BMP or similar.

T-34s converted to an APC, similar to how we converted Rams & Shermans to Kangaroos?

*waits for someone to show a pic of a real conversion as done by the Ruskies*

Doesn't remind me, nev. But you really have a good, good, good idea there!!!

looks good to me, but I'd guess the Russians would have preferred a gun tank to an APC any day

Late war a few slightly damaged T-34 and KV1 were converted to turret-less Armoured Recovery Vehicles, so an APC would be a cool 'What-If?'.

I also thought in this idea some time (eons) ago. Go ahead!

Maybe, but they used plenty of M2 half-tracks (forget which variants), so they understood the need and use of an APC.

Radish

I've built one of the turretless tractors using the Tamiya 1/35th kit.
For an APC, .....don't know. The T-34 was pretty small, but as a tracked scout vehicle? Might look cool with the open top and a couple of machine guns.

The Israelis used captured T-34s as targets....moving ones.
They up armoured them using frontal plates off wrecked T-34s and drove them while being shot at!!

I read somewhere that a lot of T-34s where disabled by a shell through the turret. Thus the germans would tow it back, and either add a heavier gun, remove turret, or repair turret ;)

Radish

Also, a friend of mine has built a German T-34 with the turret removed and AA guns fitted.

I did that myself...a 4x50mm unit on one of those Porsche Tigers Italeri did a few years back

How about an artillery spoter?

Interesting.  Giving the T-34 the AMX-13 or Scimitar treatment.   B)

Now call me crazy, but I would scale-o-rama that into 1/48...

I intend to do a Soviet Cromwell one day.  Ideal as a light tank/scout on the steppes given its speed and agility.  Useless as an MBT of course.

Cromwells are built in Canada and supplied via the Pacific route ;)

Then of course there was the Russian plan to upgun their Matilda's with 76mm gund  :tank:

Stick an AA battery on it...it'll fool the experts.

The Yugoslav Resistance, Tito's bunch, used an M3A5 Stuart hull with a captured set of German 50mm guns.....

'Twas an M3A3 with 20mm Flakvierling.

They also stuck the German Pak 40 anti-tank gun on the M3A3 chassis.
