Supersonic harrier! We might not need F-35 at all after all!

Great pics-I really do wonder What-if the P.1154 had been built.

What the top pic doesn't really show is how much the forward fuselage was stretched.  Here's a pic of it that was sent to me by Britjet.

So, was that PCB Harrier ever flight tested, or did they just do the gantry tests?

Zen

Gantry only, surely you folks have seen pics of the test gantry and the BS100 before?

Me I've seen on of those six BS100's for real at Yeovilton.

Just in the rig, it was for testing the engine only.  A production Harrier wasn't in the works.

Classic caption for the first pic:

"Ok, it looks good from here - start the engine..." or "What was that, about to start the engine, oh Sh....!!!"

The nozzles in those two pictures don't seem to match. Did the top one have stuff added for testing?

The top pic shows the development stage while the second one I think was for the P.1154.  At least the nozzles i have in my Maintrack kit look like that.

Top pic is of the test airframe with the PCB modified Pegasus engine, the bottom pic is of the BS100 engine.

P1127

Actually, the bottom pick pre-dates the top one. The rig used a redundant Harrier GR1 airframe, and was tested in the 70s and 80s.

It's not an effing  jump jet.

I take it the airframe was scrapped at the end of the test program.

I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

No, it (or parts of it) are with the Bristol Aero Collection. The serial was XV798

Oh, and if anyone wants to know why PCB wouldn't have worked (Nor the 1154) Read John Farley's post here:
